Hugh Jass
Only listened to a handful on there, but have said before that Wolf Alice is the record to beat for all the gongs this year. Edited July 22, 2021 by Hugh Jass
found home in 2009
Made a Spotify playlist with all the albums if anyone is interested. Frustratingly could only find Deluxe version of the Celeste album which has a ridiculous number of tracks so if you play it on shuffle you will probably be hearing more Celest than anything else:
Punksnotdead
I reckon most on here will go with Wolf Alice. My personal opinion is it's........alright, nothing special. I would love Mogwai to win, just cos I've loved them for years, but I don't think they've got a chance. If I had a vote I would go for Black Country New Road. JoeyT
Arlo Parks stands a decent chance surely?

I like it, but I don't love it the way everyone else seems to, despite it being exactly my kind of thing. Not sure what my favourite is from the list. Black Country, New Road I find quite a powerful album, think it's a really good work of art, but not necessarily fun to listen to. Arlo Parks I think writes great lyrics but find the music a bit dull. On first listen Ghetts sounds quite good even though I'm not that into grime music. Surprised the Laura Mvula album is on there when it was only released 3 weeks ago. Presume the panel that creates the short list must get advance copies. Otherwise 3 weeks isn't long to live with an album to nominate it.

Since they’ve already won the award for an album that’s inferior by some distance, you’d think they’re nailed on. Just think they might want to avoid giving the same act back to back awards? gigpusher
Think there's only 3 I've not heard which is my best result for a while. I'm amazed For Those I Love is not on the list. The list itself is solid enough but not as strong as some recent years.
Mattymooz
Shame that there is no For Those I Love in there Reckon it might be close between Arlo, Black Country and Floating Points
FloorFiller
Lots of good stuff there and pretty hard to call who’ll win. SAULT would be my favourite to win but reckon it might go to Arlo Parks.
Quark
Arlo Parks has really grown on me, perfect summer album

Predicting it won't go to Floating Points / Pharaoh Sanders - but good to see it on there.

Only listened to a couple but a toss up between Wolf Alice and BCNR so far.
Chapple12345
Wolf Alice for the win! Would a second win be a record or something?
jyoung
Wolf Alice record is quality. Only other I've listened to is BERWYN which is good vibes but probs not gonna sweep up this time.

This would be more deserving albeit possibly not my favourite.

theesundayroast
BCNR and Floating points are the two I'd like to see a winner from. I can't say there's any that I actively dislike though so quite a nice list for me.
Hugh Jass
Surprised Royal Blood haven’t received a nod, thought Typhoons was pretty well received.
Matt42
Wolf Alice is my favourite but the winner will be Arlo Parks.

I thought it was good but not a good as there other albums, they are too big for the Mercury Prize now. I would have liked to see Creeper get a nod but they aren't the sort of band to get these kind of nominations though.

FloorFiller
Dry Cleaning are a notable omission there. Like, I know there’s been a ton of great post-punk stuff out over the past year and it can’t all be here, but they’re the one I would’ve thought made the cut over all. Yep one thing you can guarantee about the Mercury's is that you can never guarantee who will win it. Sometimes they go with the obvious choice but certainly not all the time. Been many a what moment after the winner has been announced.
