If you are a rock fan though primarily and not a grime/hip hop/rapper fan then it's just not for that person. No one needs to listen to more artists with the chances of them being interested being slim to try and force their interest in a lineup.

I agree that the line-up misses some big rock-names and the first line below the heads is weaker than usual. But the undercard is amazing, it's diverse, covers almost every genre and is filled with a lot of quality-acts and I'm primarily a rock/indie-fan.
rock/indie-rock-acts I like:
Amyl and the Sniffers, Idles, King Gizzard, Wallows, Beach Bunny, Turnstile, Current Joys, black midi, beabadoobee, Surf Curse, Viagra Boys
indie-pop: Phoebe Bridgers, Still Woozy, Cuco, Arlo Parks, girl in red, Japanese Breakfast
pop: Harry Styles, Conan Gray, Doja Cat, Billie
electronic: Flume, Disclosure, Caribou, Hot Chip
rap: Brockhampton's last gig (man, I wish I could be there), Denzel Curry, Dave, Vince Staples (/R&B: Joji, Omar Apollo)

There's even Danny Elfman!

Coachella is a trendy festival with mostly trendy people there with trendy music taste.

Rock isn't so hot genre for a long time, especially nowdays, so that's the reason why are these acts are reduced.

You have far better festivals around that area such as This Ain't No Picnic or Outside Lands with more indie and rock acts.

Why force yourself trying to love some music that you don't like, just pick up some another festival which suits you better.

Totally agree, but not being interested in genres like hip-hop/pop/electronic and then going to a Coachella thread to thumb down a Coachella lineup just seems quite redundant. When was the last time it was rock-oriented? 2013 and then started moving away from that gradually?

It was the American Festival I attended so I'm always going to have an interest when it comes. It's more about being an enthusiast really.

Honestly, indie doesn't really do a lot for me these days and just was much better when I was hitting the festival scenes at the start. They just aren't the type of acts I like but that's fine. I'm not flaming Coachella for a poor lineup for me. Riot Fest! is more me.

Yeah, that festival seems to do better with an older audience too.

They do a strange though of having to go VIP to get re-entry through the day. But you do get food vouchers for that etc too.

I'm not huge on their 2022 headliners but then I'm not going to be going this year. 2021 looked ace.

I like how you feel that 100 influencers determine the whole demographic of the festival. And the same people who produce Coachella are producing This Aint No Picnic.

In the end, all of you want some comfort when it comes to the music booked at festivals. There has to somehow be guitars or there is a failure among the promoters.  Youre scared of the change that exists out there. Youre also discounting the regionality of the festival which is something you wouldnt understand if you didnt research the artists playing, which clearly nobody is doing.

But hey, you would be just as upset if your respective favorite festival had this much name recognition world wide and a part in popular culture. So you keep on trying to gate keep your events and think youre above everyone else because rock bands.

Are you able to do a single post on this entire forum without a) having a massive fucking chip on your shoulder about something or b) insulting other forum members by convincing yourself that everyone here is a luddite or that we want Noel Gallagher headlining every festival in the world?

This constant agenda to belittle and patronise other members of the forum is so weird and something you've been talked to about multiple times. In this case, it's an EU-centric board, most posters don't go to Coachella (hence why this is barely on two pages) or give a shit about the minutae of its demographic, which is why they're less clued into it than you are. Wind it in.

I'm 29, and age has nothing nothing to do with it. Even ignoring the headliners - who are ticket shifters if nothing else - if you can only pick out six acts from that entire list you'd be remotely interested in seeing I think the problem is you just haven't heard enough great artists. Unless you just don't like hip-hop, pop and electronic, in which case sure, that drastically reduces the acts on there.

Curious what your six would be actually, maybe I or someone else can make a recommendation based on those - no promises!

I've got a fair few years on you and trust me age has plenty to do with it.  As much as I can listen to new music it doesn't have same appeal as all the great rock I grew up with along with stuff like Radiohead, The National, Primal Scream etc.  I'm no fan of hip hop, pop and electronic and you quite rightly highlight that this does reduce the appeal to me, which is exactly the point I was making.  Just for your info the highlight for me on the bill is Idles. along with King Gizzard, Spiritulized, Code Orange, and possibly Caribou.  If folks like yourself love it then I'm genuinely happy for you as that's what love music and festivals are all about and this is the right place to discuss these things.

Yup. Although I've only got 7 at Rock Werchter for example so far and that is at the max. RAR and Nova Rock I think are the best one's so far. Nova and RAR first days are very good for me. Mad Cool I have the most but I wouldn't favour it over one of those others.

Werchter is shaping up nicely and if I hadn't already rolled over Mad Cool tickets from 2020 I'd have definitely gone back to RW.  Enjoyed the few times I went to RW.  Well organised and the sound quality on the main stage was fabulous.

The main stage lacks ambiance most of the time though. It’s the Barn and KlucC (the tents) that make Rock Werchter truly worthwhile though.

The Werchter lineup is too been there done that for me. A combination of RW (old acts) and Coachella (big refreshing acts) would’ve been perfect.

Totally get that but I’d have Metallica and Pearl Jam every day for sheer enjoyment. What I meant about the main stage was the sound quality as opposed to atmosphere. Sad geek kinda thing

Sunday is the standout at Werchter for but it's really not doing much for me. Mad Cool I've got 15/16 acts I'd see although the Muse day and Jack White day ate generally quite for me.

I'm very much rock punk, punk, pop punk, ska pop/punk atm though.

Different people, different taste huh. That Sunday looks awful for me... Both Killers and RHCP were awful last time they played (and I've seen both too many times as well) and then for some reason there's Keane and Sum 41. Hoping for a great, stellar Barn lineup that day.

Okay, that's all I was saying really, not being into hip-hop, pop or electronic, there's almost no point in even looking at a Coachella lineup any more, wasn't suggesting people should have to listen to things they don't like.

That being said you should check out Black Midi, Turnstile and Amyl & The Sniffers from this list if you haven't before.

I'm off to RW for the first time myself this year since Metallica and Pearl Jam are still on my bucket list - that's one thing age will definitely do to you, not give you enough chances to see the old chaps!

I don't care about promoters if the line- up is stacked.

Many acts who played Coachella in the past are now playing This Aint No Picnic without any desire to come back to Coachella.

No, SHM replaces Kanye and The Weeknd is doing a bigger guest slot during their show...

So probably pretty much what was already on the bill.

Yes but also The Weeknd got $8.5 million which Kanye was supposed to get

Don't know why they booked this dude Kanye in the first place after he wanted custom-built dome stage back in 2019 and had "sunday service" at music Festival, plus considering all of his problematic statements.. for $8 million plus a $500,000 production fee🤯 They could have 5 world class artist insted...

For Coachella, the artist fees are much higher compared to European festivals since every artist needs to be available for two weekends and to have no concert dates around California last 4 months. Kanye was a replacement for Frank Ocean but I also think that it was a problematic booking. Swedish House Mafia was always their backup which had an odd placement on the first poster.
