Weirdly I actually prefer having adverts with football, half time seems so long on the BBC ahah. I'm at the mercy of the pub on Sunday though.

I'm not keen on the idea of the pub for England footie myself, it's like New Years Eve where it's full of amateurs who can't handle their drink made worse by so many people being out of drinking practice.

See my post a few pages back about watching the Denmark game in the pub.

It's a tricky one innit. You basically follow the game more closely at home, though the pub has the better atmos.

Though we abandoned the pub 8 mins before kick off when the ITV internet went down for the semi and ran home and still really enjoyed it.

I was at a great pub in Manchester for for the Ukraine match (shout out to the flour and flaggon), I actually think covid stuff helped it as it wasn't overly packed and the bar wasn't rammo at half time.

These things are a bit of a lottery though and I'm not gonna suggest mine was the average experience. I can't separate my love of pubs and love of football, it's worth the stinkers for when it plays out well. In more of a big beer gardeny affair for the final so not really the same, got high hopes though.

Its the fair weather fans that only wheel themselves out for the tournaments that annoy me the most (and some only if we get to the knockout stages)

Also I watch tonnes of club football at my local as I don't have bt, which then turns out to be more expensive than by coz I'm nailing 4 pints when I'm there (and that's just when I go on my bill)

I used to do the same a few years ago when I was renting....decided I couldn't afford Sky/BT coz the guy I shared with didn't like football so was looking at paying it on my own...then I would go down my local..skull five pints and some food each time and quickly realised I was actually spending more than if I had just paid for it at home!

socialising, having pints AND watching the football is an absolute win! i used to try and get my local to put the Aussie Rules on, and the St Pauli matches on the rare occasion they'd be on live - it was great. I'd far rather they get the money for beers etc than BT/sky

Ah ya need a few of em there with their child like wonder and naivety. Bit shit at the moment when places are obviously in demand, an I get your Denmark experience was a bit shit, but I like having a couple of people about genuinely finding themselves get into it.

To be honest I drink quite a lot at these things so probably romanticise it heavily. That or I'm the guy ruining everyone's nights ahah.

It's worth it though for being round other people that are into it, my mcfc fans are all back in the ends so I only see them for big games (or at the ground when its open obviously) and the people I live with don't care about city (one of them hates us), I'm happy paying for a few jars near some temporary friends.

The euros have been quite flat for me … don’t know if it’s because I’ve not been to the pub for any of the matches like I would have done in non covid times … I’m still looking at the celebrations with a mix of emotions … I’m also not feeling quite so supportive of all the stuff that seems to follow England and of course our PM using it for political gain ( any PM would of course ) … anyway hope I can get some mojo back for the final …

With ITV having Sam Matterface, why would ITV even bother?

Not sure what was wrong with Clive and Ally.

I met Clive when he presented something at a fundraiser I was working at about 10 years ago...spent ages chatting to him backstage....handed him his socks when he was getting changed into his suit hahaha 😄

So I am not English and have some Italian heritage and supported the Azzurri for years.

Think this will be a great final a real 50/50 game. Perhaps Wembley gives England the edge.

Italy were lucky against Spain. Spain took Italy's possession game away and Italy had to revert to Catenaccio to survive.

England were lucky with the penalty against Denmark but by far were the better team so deserved to go through. Every non English person complaining about the penalty can sod off. This is football. When our club teams get a controversial penalty, we take it and move on. Balance of play England were better - end of.

England now has a blueprint from Spain to beat Italy:

1. Keep possession (Spain had like 65%)

2. Man mark both Jorginho and Verratti. Both experts at controlling the play. I always thought you could man mark 1 but not both but Spain proved me wrong.

I think the issue is, England aren't a team who can control possession the way Spain does. This means Italy will be able to play their natural style much easier. On the flipside, England have a better attack and defense in comparison to Spain.

Spinazolla injury really hurt Italy as well. Spain just left Emerson free in order to man mark verratti and jorginho. Emerson actually played fine - but there is a huge difference between solid and world class in left back terms. A few pre tournament injuries (Pellegrini / Sensi) have also hurt Italy options off the bench. Sensi is vice jorginho. Pellegrini is a creative machine.

I also think Italy tired badly in extra time against Spain. England with a massive fitness edge.

So in summary I think:

1. Italy dominate possession say 55%ish which means they will look much better than they did against Spain

2. England to look extremely dangerous on the counter attack

3. If game goes to extra time, England will be running the show with fitness egde. England also have a wealth of attack off the bench much better than Italy reserves.

4. if it gets to penalties ....

As said, think this is a real 50.50

May the best team win.

Discipline is also going to be key - a silly, early yellow card for Rice and/or Phillips could play a huge part in the outcome of the game, as they really need stop Veratti and Jorginho having space or time to dictate the game.
Let’s hope the refereeing is as solid as it has been for the majority of the tournament.

To be fair Rice played 80 minutes against Germany on a yellow and was impeccable.

Bjorn Kaipers is the ref and he’s usually pretty solid and fair, so fingers crossed he continues that in this final. As you say the standard of refereeing has been really good this tournament, the premier league refs could def do with learning a thing or 2 as to how this tournament has been officiated
