Mad Cool Festival 2022

Thinking behind NIN being added after Hellfest is that their Summer schedule seems to have been cobbled together at late notice. They have been named as at a late headline replacement at other events ( such at Boston Calling ) and there is a gap on the MC dates and they are in Europe.

I could be miles of the scent, but I’m sure whoever it is is currently tied up on an exclusivity contract that has to expire before being named.

Surely that is the only reason 2 x major Friday replacements haven’t been named.

Wristband arrived today!

With the Hellfest stuff, is it a given for Nine Inch Nails? Or someone like Ghost?

Just pure guesswork based on the fact we are 8 weeks from the festival yet the organisers are still 2 x headliners shy for the Friday night.

This can only mean 2 things :

1. Mad Cool is the worst organised festival in the history of festivals

or

2. The replacements are under embargo or restricted by exclusivity agreements that need to expire before being named.

Who knows ?!

Personally, I'm not sure we will get  2 new headliners for Friday night to replace Faith No More and QOTSA. Mad Cool could promote a current sub-headliner for Friday as a "headliner". I know this would upset many people but I think it is a possibility. expectations

It's the first option I had a ticket for the 2020 edition they were rumoured to have MCR and the strokes as headliners but the information leaked early and it pissed the bands out and they ended up replacing them with Royal Blood and Mumford and Sons they're notoriously bad for annoying bands etc with teasing them before they are allowed to announce them etc. I'd honestly not have high expectations for the final 2 headliners. Here's hoping instead of two weak headliners they just get a bigger headliner in to compensate for it and bump someone up

Only the strokes were leaked early. The MCR rumour was purely that…… just a rumour

Still weighing up going to Sunset for my birthday. About £176 + spends to see Rage, Biffy, Stereophonics and RTJ is pretty good, however it's only pretty good if I can see all of them.

What do we think the chances of the five 2nd tier acts on that poster clashing are? Surely with half the acts of a normal Mad Cool day you'd get to see all the bigger names back-to-back across the 2 main stages?

Probably nothing, but worth mentioning anyways. Kendrick dropped a load of new tour dates for America and Europe.

Starts in America on 19 July and there isn’t a Spain date. Could be the missing header?

July 19 is the start of an extremely intense tour of the US.  Can't see him adding even more intensity with extra gigs before.

And doubt we will get an A-list name as a replacement for lower level acts (QOTSA, Faith No More)

You are probably rights Tickets are sold so I’m sure there is a temptation from the MC team to bump up Haim or Alt-J or War on Drugs and take any flack on the chin knowing that it will blow over.

Punters with 4 day tickets can probably cope with that, but anybody that’s bought a Friday day ticket would be well pissed off.

Let’s hope MC surprise us

I mean, I don’t work in the festival industry but I’d say that ‘bumping up to headliner’ is more complicated than just telling the band “you’re now headlining, SURPRISE.”

I mean it’s a difficult one isn’t it. They’ve almost dug themselves in a hole here. At any other festival Muse, Haim and Alt-J would be a fairly decent night. But now there is expectation on another headliner.

MC now have to find someone to headline knowing they have sold most of the tickets anyway!

Either way, 7 weeks today I’ll be in the sun, and maybe the idea of a “SURPRISE, headliner” who you only know when they walk out is quite a nice idea! 🙂

I think they're legitimately out of good options at this point. Probably banging on several band's doors asking for one-off shows to get them out of the shit.

Only thing I can think of which explains the delay is the theory of them having booked a band (or bands) who are currently under an exclusive contract with another festival so they need to wait for that exclusivity to be over, but if that’s the case it’ll no doubt mean they don’t announce until very late in the day which doesn’t seem like good practice, even if they have managed to secure somebody decent. Otherwise I just can’t imagine what’s going on behind the scenes and the longer this goes on with them advertising QOTSA and FNM as playing the more ridiculous it gets, and I bet they’re gonna try and play off QOTSA being a ‘last minute dropout’ despite them bailing on their tour a long time ago.

What did the other festivals do that had QOTSA and FNM playing? There's obviously been more turnover the last couple of years because of Covid, so posters are all mixed up with three years of acts, but no obvious clues.

I've had a look at a few festivals and can only see names being bumped up - nothing major being added. Unless I've missed something that doesn't bode particularly well.

The properly run festivals announced QOTSA had pulled out back in February if  I remember correctly. Some announced a replacement, others like Rockwerchter bumped others up the bill.

However, I don’t think other festivals were already a headliner down after FNM announcement.

Having a pinned lineup on their official Twitter site naming both QOTSA and FNM as still playing on is borderline fraudulent in my opinion.

The lack on communication from the organisers is a complete joke.

Sure - but that's wasn't quite the point I was making. Rock Werchter, for example, lost both FNM and QOTSA, but I can't see any obvious replacements in their line up, apart from bumping names, which is rubbish.

Just because they were quicker with their comms, they've still dropped some big names from the bill without actually replacing them. That may be "properly organised", but it's a very poor outcome for attendees.

Mad Cool have with their limited comms suggested a few times that they are actually trying to get a replacement, but the worry is that that this is just typical Mad Cool idiocy, and they'll end up having to do the same as everyone else, and bump a name or two?

Couldn't agree more. It's at the very least false advertising and arguably fraud. This is a business with a €20million turnover, not some sole trader who has innocently dropped the ball.

They've known for so long now, frankly they should be fined.

I know its annoying but buried some where in the terms & conditions will be lineup subject to change.

They have made a rod for their own back by making a thing out of having 3 headliners a night. At most festivals being able to advertise Muse as your headliner would be more then enough.

Even with out QOTSA & FNM, I doubt there are many festivals with a bigger set of headline acts. So, I'm not that bothered what they do about replacements.  I love QOTSA but they were not on the lineup when I bought my ticket. I  like FNM but as I have not seen them before, I dont like them enough to have bought a ticket to their own headline shows.

Billie & Swift are more of a blow as they were on the original lineup.

Hoping they pull a rabbit out of the hat but struggling to think who?

What’s most annoying is that some punters have shown good faith with MC on tickets bought a long time ago and no refunds requested.

Whilst I agree they stack their headliners, you cannot sell tickets on the premise of 3 headliners and with just over a month to go still have 2 bands named that bailed months ago.

I would wager there are a lot more than 2 x changes due to take place over the 5 days as well.

Literally no communication for 6 months is pathetic.
