"I’ve been thinking about what album to pick for a while and had quite a few different options to
choose from but I thought I’d go for something that I discovered through eFestivals.
I can’t remember exactly when this was but it would’ve been 6 or more years ago and
I’ve been a big fan ever since. FIDLAR are a fairly small skater punk band from
California and hugely underrated. I wanted to pick a genre we've not heard in album club
and something that’s hopefully different/new for a few of you. I’ve gone for their most
recent album which is their 3rd record. Enjoy!"

Questions:

Have you heard them before?

What did you think?

Will you listen them again?

Would you watch them at a festival?

"I have been recommending this album to anyone who will listen for the last few years.

The music is excellent and is endlessly creative. It’s got male and female vocals working in tandem.
It’s jazzy/lounge rock at heart but it’s not aimless. There are tons of interesting instruments
(lots of flutes and even a flugelhorn!) and some really interesting Asian-music influences as well.

It’s one of my favourite ever albums. My favourite song is Ya Ya Breathe.

That album title as well!?"

Questions:

Was the music what you expected based on the album title?

What was your favourite song?

Will you check out more of their songs? They have a new single out - and it’s great!

So far almost all of the albums have been new for me and the upstairs flat think I have a hell of a broad musical taste!  Found loads so thanks @EighteenSixty7 for doing this, and to all those who have contributed thus far.

I'm a little behind (a couple of weeks) but in order to catch up have stuck these pair of albums on so at least I'll be able to give a rating this week!

FILAR- Almost Free

Have you heard them before? I think my old housemate used play them, I remember he had a band tee

What did you think? It's not for me. I do like some punk, but this just didn't hit me in the same way as say Viagra boys from this year. (Is that post-punk tho? Maybe I prefer post-punk, I'm not sure). I did like a few songs like By Myself, and I like that they don't seem to take themselves too seriously, a nice vibe!

Will you listen to them again? I wouldn't mind playing a few songs but I won't go out my way

Would you watch them at a festival? Probably not

Rating: 2

Bruno Pernadas - something something corodiles

Was the music what you expected based on the album title? Not really, but I really loved this! This is like, cooking an Italian meal and throwing a small dinner party music. Some really fun sounds and relaxing melodies throughout. V good

What was your favourite song? Hard to say, Valley in the Ocean and Anywhere in Spacetime maybe, but its a great experience to listen all the way through.

Will you check out more of their songs? Definitely!

Fidlar - Almost free

Have you heard them before? I have never heard of Fidlar before

What did you think? Not really my thing but pleasant enough, my fave track by far was 'Called you twice'

Will you listen them again? Not really, enjoyable but it didn't really shout out to me to want to hear again

Would you watch them at a festival? The sort of band that if passing a stage they were playing on i might stop to listen for a couple of tracks before moving on

Rating: Can't really mark more than a 2 given what i've marked up for others

Bruno Pernandas - Those who throw objects at Crocodiles will be asked to retrieve them.

Was the music what you expected based on the album title? What a title BTW, and who would have known what would be expected by that! I loved it, i am sure i've heard of him/ them before somewhere. I went for a long walk in the park today ( off day from work) and it was a great listen sitting in the sun. I imagined being at the festival sat listening by West Holts, sadly no drink in hand though. I love the jazziness that plays through the album.

What was your favourite song? Has to be 'Anywhere in Spacetime' i love the use of asian sounds in this,  and 'Ya Ya breathe'

Will you check out more of their songs? They have a new single out - and it’s great!

I also listened to their 2014 album ' How can we be joyful in a world of Knowledge' and would agree this is the better album although very good.

I gave this a 4, another very welcome artist to add to my playlist.

Almost Free by Fidlar

Have you heard them before? Nope, although the name did ring a bit of a bell.

What did you think? I was quite excited by the description from @foolee, but turns out that I was a bit wide of the mark in my expectations.  I was expecting (hoping for?) something along more ska influenced along the lines of NOFX or Rancid, or more straight-up fast skate punk like Pennywise. I know, probably showing my age!  It wasn't bad as such, but unfortunately I did find it just a bit uninspiring. I actually enjoyed it more on second listen, but it certainly wasn't pulling me back in for another. Sorry dude!

Will you listen them again?  Unlikely tbh.

Would you watch them at a festival? Possibly.  They're in the category of bands that I'd see if they were on, and I would be interested to see if they translate into a bit more energy in a live setting.

Rating: 2.5/5

Those Who Throw Objects at The Crocodiles Will be Asked to Retrieve Them by Bruno Pernadas

Was the music what you expected based on the album title? Not quite! Was expecting something more...weird and out there and inaccessible. As it turned out there's some strangeness to it but it's also really listenable.  Some really interesting variations in the sound, from that kind of smooth lounge sound to parts that really reminded me of Charlie Mingus.

What was your favourite song? Galaxy.  I love the changes in pace and tone.

Will you check out more of their songs? They have a new single out - and it’s great!  Yes indeed. I'm intrigued by this!

Never heard of them. One of those albums for me where there were a few good tracks but the rest just was not my type of thing really. Don't think I will be revisting.

Those Who Throw Objects at The Crocodiles Will be Asked to Retrieve Them by Bruno Pernadas

Such a good album title. Did my usual skip through the tracks when this went up and seemed alright. gave it a proper listen on Wednesday and boy is it good the tracks seem to change as you listen to some, found myself a few times thinking "oh this track isn't so great" then in moments being taken along for a ride that I really enjoyed, not sure I get that often with music. Have listened now to the other LPs and enjoying them together with the new song. Will certainly be listening to this a fair bit in the future and a hardcopy purchase will be made.

Almost Free by Fidlar

Just not my that inspiring for me to listen to this more than a couple of times. Bad start for me with the first song and preferred the album more as it went on but not enough to pursue it for too long. Loved that it was different and not what i would listen to, and maybe it will unlock a door for the future but not today.

Score 2.5 out of 5

Just loved this. So up my street, I’m sure I’ve received an accidental Deliveroo order for it at some point. On the spotify playlist and new album is great also.  Just  really pleasant listening that makes me happy.

Score 5 out of 5
