I'd rather see a 'dumb' comment than one where you make fun of someone's opinion. 😉 In fact he's having a valid point too...

I guess "too old" wasn't the best way to write what I meant, (although I was refering to Pearl Jam/Metallica, not RHCP and english isn't my first language, sorry). My point/question was: Considering that the majority of people my/our age (I'm 19) are pop/rap-fans, bands like Metallica won't tour forever and a good part of their fans won't be the target audience of festivals anymore, wouldn't it make sense to attract younger people too and mix it up. And I'm not even saying that Werchter doesn't try, the did a good job moste of the time. But if you book PJ/RHCP/Metallica/FnM-21P as your headliners in 2021, you won't sell that many tickets to 16-30 year olds (of course there are exceptions), so it's at least a question that should be asked. I don't know the answer to it, but it's a music forum, so let's discuss about it, not attack each other. There not being a fitting pop-act around next year as an alternative is a valid point and that the acts booked sell the most tickets obviously is too, so maybe it's the right decision this year to go for older/established acts:)

Really, really really curious about what they are planning for that sunday, nog that the harder rock day seems to have moved to friday (and thursday). Daniel Ferreira
It's 52 weeks to RW. The festival could streamline more, like announcing 2/3 bands every Friday... I've heard critics about Mad Cool, but they're invigorating year after year. I think they have a good marketing team. I think festivals on the subject of advertising bands have been a bit stuck in the same logic for years.

I'm a bit surprised no other early July festival like Roskilde, Open'er or Lollapalooza Stockholm announced anything last weekend just like Rock Werchter. I mean other festivals like Rock am Ring or Mad Cool have 90% of their full line up already announced.... What we know so far until now: Roskilde: No Taylor, no Kendrick, The Strokes uncertain......only Faith No More seem to be around. Open'er: Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, Chemical Brothers already confirmed, Taylor/Kendrick just like Roskilde, A$AP Rocky has no dates yet but The Killers are still available as well as Tyler the Creator. Lolla Stockholm: Only Pearl Jam confirmed, no dates for Kendrick/Post Malone yet, The Killers are around If they had Foo Fighters, Muse, Kings of Leon or Gorillaz shouldn't that be announced by now? Roskilde is pretty much sold out, so no rush.

I think we need to consider Imagine Dragons in co-headline with something like Kings of Leon. Like the thursday of 2017: Imagine Dragons (sub) - Arcade Fire (cohead) - Kings of Leon (cohead). Now: X (sub) - Imagine Dragons (cohead) - Kings of Leon (cohead), with X a strong sub.

pigital
Elton John? GNR? Is this some kind of sarcasm I’m not understanding? Starting to feel like the bands are not the only old thing on RW anymore. I really don’t get how you consciously could still ask for more old bands/artists. Either I’m too young for RW or everyone else is not open for new music on the top off the bill. But damn, GNR and Elton John when Tame Impala, Kendrick (possibly), Dua Lipa, Lorde, Tyler the Creator, Billie Eilish and more are touring just totally blows my mind.

(you can not seriously compare the Guns with Lorde or Tyler the creator ... they were alreayd here in the 80's, and they'll be remembered. Not sure about your Tyler or Tame Impala..) Almost everyone here is spitting on "old" acts, it's non sense. For example, if I take the Rolling Stones : wayyy older generation than mine, but I can EASILY admit that it would be a bigger act than every name you mentionned ! They made music history, when many of your "new acts" will only make 3 or 4 albums and will be forgotten. 1

What we say is: you already have plenty of old bands, just for the sake of diversity take other bands that appeal to the big audience you’re catering too with RW. Bands like Rolling Stones, GNR, Elton John fit on TW Classic, since they are as you mentioned music history. But they simply do not contribute anymore to the headliners already presented in the 22 line up. so yes, taking all this into consideration I do not believe the audience that hasn’t been served yet is waiting for Elton John or GNR or even the Stones. Which means that a combo of other acts like the ones I’ve mentioned will be better for the festival line up. (Evidence for that is the great welcome to the Primavera names) edit: also nobody is comparing anything. We’re putting a line up together and that doesn’t mean that by taking one band you’re saying the other is shit. No sarcasm, I'm talking about "big" names for headline.. I saw The who, Depeche mode, Robert Plant, The Cure, New order, Neil Young, Nick Cave etc.. at Werchter, I just ask if the Guns or name like Elton John can complete de line up.. I am not Ken19, but I've come to learn that Kendrick kind of makes his plans when he feels like it. Now take a professional festival organisation with bookers that are dealing with booking headliners more than a year before the previous edition of the festival. He'd be very lucky to have a headliner cancel and to be able to replace the way he's with his bookings. To put things in perspective: you plan a holiday with friends. One friend is evasive/hesitant to actually fulfill the plans. So, you and your three other friends book the holiday, 4 beds, a car, tickets for everything sold out and you have them just for the 4 of you. Now, said hesitating/evasive friend finally comes along somewhere down the line and says: well I've been thinking about it and now I want to go as well. But you can't fit this person in your accomodation anymore, no more tickets for the events, no extra space in the car. Annoying right?

Mondo-kun
One interesting thing about Kendrick - his only (at least yet) festival appearance this year on Day N Vegas festival in November comes with a title "From Section.80 to DAMN.". I can assume there won't be an announcement of his new album before November, so probably no new tour dates until that.
Scarnic
When it comes to the big names in music being mention it keeps me interested. Sure we'll have the genre/ age discussion till the end of days but Werchter do a really good job at pitching the Festival right where they need it. You want more metal/ EDM/ chart music, then there are festivals more specialised to this. For me you go to see new bands and old bands but if you don't like it walk to something else. You might be watching the next Arctic monkeys or Tame Impala!

Someone theorised that he might be contractually obligated to play new material at another event he's booked for maybe next year. So for Day N Vegas he can't treat that as his comeback. It would make sense.
