Actually just had a look and got sent an email with first Pro bands in February 2019.

Ah, well disregard my comment. Just looked at the website.

Does seem like a fairly substantial gap between 2019 and this year then. Are they planning on having Pro bands both weekends?

So with the three south American lineups being released next Wednesday, I'm going to assume we don't hear any more updates on PS Barcelona or Porto until at least the week after.

I know that PS are usually pretty quiet with updates and news but I have to say I expected a bit more info by this point especially seeing as it's been so long since this event was originally announced. It does make me fear a lot of changes to lineup/stages etc.

Just for a quick example, in the lead up to PS2019 the official youtube channel uploaded videos and the official Primavera website added news on:

  • Jan 31st: Changes to the lineup.
  • Feb 8th: A little hype vid.
  • Feb 20th: Another one.
  • Mar 5th: Another one.
  • Apr 1st: A video outlining the El Punto Stage.
  • Apr 5th: Miley Cyrus added.
  • Apr 9th: A video about 'classic' PS bands.
  • Apr 10th: Details about the Primavera Pro exclusive acts and events.
  • Apr 16th: News about the food lineup at the festival.
  • Apr 24th: Information about the free program before the festival.
  • Apr 30th: A video outlining the Seat Village Stage.

After this we got four more videos about genres at PS19 and one about the UN SDG Action Campaign. On the 8th May we got the Heineken Stage lineup.

So far this year we have 0 videos on Youtube and one news article detailing the new ticket entry, that's a big dropoff in content and information for an event that is at least three years in the making.

TLDR; Can we get a crumb of information please?

This is interesting to read – it's my first time so wasn't sure if radio silence was normal or not. I like getting hyped up for festivals months in advance, whereas I feel like I'm not really thinking about it that much tbh. Until this thread pops up in my inbox, but that's never really for new info.

  • Thanks 1

They normally have someone with them to cover those bits. Last couple of times I've seen them Eve Owen has been practically a band member, and I feel like I've seen Lisa Hannigan with them too (although can't really remember). Eve is great on those songs.

Yeah I know they do. I saw them on the IAETF tour but I'm not sure if the back up vocalists are gonna be mainstay when then next tour is what I was saying.

One of the reasons for this drop in content is just - as always - Corona. Festival promoters everywhere had to cut costs and let go staff, and creators were the first to be laid off. Moreover, as many promoters do not have their own teams, they used specialized agencies that, because there were no jobs at all during covid, had to lay off many people too or closed alltogether. Now that everything is running again, there is a massive lack of content creators in the music industry, since many of them just went into other sectors.
Availability is slowly recovering, but many promoters have as of now still not found time and money to re-establish their (visual) communications teams. And to be fair: PS doesn't need to put an emphasis on that now.

Yeah that's fair. To be honest I'm not arsed about all singing, all dancing videos. Just a few tweets and a bit of hype would do me!

I am sure their media focus has shifted and new platforms are more important. And of course very sympathetic towards the fact that staff cuts/budget cuts probably mean there are less folks working on these things. However, there is still a distinct lack of information about the festival compared not only to other events but also to the last edition.

It's just not helping the old post-covid nerves but hopefully we start to get more (especially following the Prima Pro stuff today) and fears are allayed.

I also think we'll get information later than usual, because set times and co will be announced for both weekends simultaneously, so rather two weeks before WE1 than the usual 3-4.

Personally I feel content is almost too well put together.

e.g. I’d be happy with just a list of names, doesn’t need graphics, videos and flowing prose accompanying it.

Today Best Kept Secret re-confirmed all their bands (with the exception of Soulwax) which is great news as so many names in common with PS.

Good to hear. Guessing we’ll be getting something similar from Prima soon enough with (hopefully) a MA replacement and also I assume whatever acts have dropped out and their fill ins. Really hoping the lineup doesn’t take too much damage, but in the current climate it’s hard to guess (and that’s not even counting the inevitable last minute drop outs come the weekends themselves).

Not wanting to be Mr Doom and Gloom, but Coachella resulted in a spike in local Covid infections and a number of infected musicians, with the consequence being cancelled tours.

Primavera will still happen, but regardless of the re-confirmed bands, we'll probably still get some attrition.

On a positive note, I saw Sparks last night, and they've gone though a US tour, and halfway through a European tour, and done that by asking audiences to wear masks.

I’d be fine with artists not coming over in general from Coachella. Poor lineup this year.
