Could Alex Trenchard (Standon Calling organiser) possibly have the ear of the government. His dad is Hugh Trenchard, 3rd Viscount Trenchard, the Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire since 2006, a Lieutenant of the City of London since 2016, and a senior government adviser.

Are you suggesting there might be some shenanigans?

Because if you're not, then I am.

For Standon Calling to be allowed to go ahead (without either ERP status, or as a socially distanced event) we need two things to be true:

1) Step 4 must go ahead on 19th July

2) Large events, without social distancing, must be allowed in step 4

Or, the alternate path - The Government make it up as they go along, blatantly favour their mates, and grant an exemption or twist the rules specifically to allow a festival run by one of their own.

I'm managing to park my own selfish needs (PLEASE let Green Man happen. Pleeeeeeeeeeease!) to redirect my fury at the education problem. These kids have had their life chances MASSIVELY fucked up and now, when yes cases are rising but almost no children get sick (and yes, I know, long COVID etc - that might actually make me retire early....!!!), the guidance that is sending completely well children home for 10 days for the fifth time, is mental. Poor little buggers.

I absolutely can’t wait to see the knicker wetting from

fake SAGE when mass gatherings become the norm even at the peak of the exit wave

Back off to the shit thread with the fake SAGE stuff

1) Step 4 must go ahead on 19th July

2) Large events, without social distancing, must be allowed in step 4

Now, the first we can be pretty confident of. The mood music from all sides of the debate is that it’s looking good for step 4 on the 19th. All adults offered a jab and 2/3 of the adult population fully vaccinated is enough to reduce coronavirus to a flu like illness that we can manage, so we can be confident that step 4 will get the go ahead in a few weeks.

The second thing I’m less confident of because step 4 only specifies “social contact”, not large events, which will still be subject to review. The fact that an event has self-confirmed without having ERP status tells me that the government intend to go ahead and allow large gigs, full capacity sports events and the like from 19th July. I have a suspicion that they’re being a bit coy about it because they secretly want a lot of late July/early August festivals to cancel purely due to the bad optics of having LOTS of mass gatherings during the likely peak of the exit wave, but they’ll announce it on the 12th to allow a few events to go ahead. Standon have likely had a tip-off that the likes of Kendal Calling and Truck are not privy to.

I also wouldn’t rule out the possibility that indoor events will remain restricted, although even this is trending the other way now given that we are hearing nightclubs will be opening on the 19th.

My prediction is that large events will be permitted however anything over a certain limit (say 1000 indoors, 10000 outdoors) will require a negative LFT.

@efcfanwirral thoughts?

That absolutely 100% sums up my thoughts on where we are too. Its a shame they had to go about it this way on the optics thing but it does sound logical.

And, they're saying they may get rid of bubble isolation by September. SEPTEMBER???? In other words, we can't be fucked to actually address the tricky situation now, so bollocks to the last three weeks of the school year. Shameful.

@Quark - I've never been in the shit thread, but realise that I might be veering off thread topic.

Are you suggesting that this Government deserve any level of trust or don't favour their own?

You do know that I was joking don't you, @incident??!

I recognise, of course, the problems of conveying tone or nuance in text, but I thought my posting on 'ere would only allow that to be seen as me taking the piss!

Apols if misinterpreted, obviously!

Ah balls, missed that. Sorry, distracted by the stuff I'm theoretically getting paid to do getting in the way of my important efests time.

It’s like rubber necking at a car crash scene - you know you shouldn’t look, you know no good is going to come of it… but you just can’t help taking another peek!

Yes, it has been absolutely brutal for my 6th former. Crap GCSEs, half a year of A Level teaching missing, no driving, no going out, no socialising in person. You can say these are first world problems but the affect on their mental health is frightening and getting any  help is laughable.

Full speed ahead here on the build at Latitude, wouldn't think it's over 3 weeks away!

Is this your 1st festival build this season?

2019 seems a bloody long time ago for us punters but it must feel like an eternity for the crew - I managed to get back to work beginning of May (chef) after being out since last March, so understand the excitement of being back doing something you love mixed with the shear exhaustion of actually working again 😅 I'm now on 6 day weeks because of the chef shortage, not complaining after 14 months unpaid though 😉

Can't wait to be back at Henham Park, always a joy of a festival 😍

The 'other thread' used to be a great source of information up until earlier in the year but has truly become a toxic hellscape the past few months, so I've had to go back to Reddit and Twitter for that sort of news. Luckily the rest of the forum seems mostly unaffected by what goes on in it, so that's encouraging.

Back on topic: just snatched a ticket to Latitude – a little surprised they're still available after the recent confirmation it's going ahead, but very excited to go.

1st festival build, but I was at G7 for 26 days and then Bigfoot Festival directly after it. Then after a week off spent at Ashcombe Farm, we came direct to here for 31 days.. can't complain at all personally, but I know a lot of others not so fortunate.
