It's good news for nightclubs - I don't know that it has much bearing on the rest of the festival season though.

It's too late in the day now for most of them and many of them have pencilled in next year as a 'restart'.

True. But their are still a few holding on.

So this is pretty good news.

I've said to my mates, I'll happily still take a quick covid test prior to keep as safe as possible

Think the day time festivals should be ok, it's more the logistics of the multi day events is hard to put together at this late stage.

But yeah probably good news nonetheless.

Still waiting on y not - having booked latitude assuming it'd be cancelled. If they do manage to make it happen that's going to be a brilliant couple of weekends but I'm so out of practice i think I'll be broken after 😂

From the Mail

""Proof of vaccination or a negative test will not be compulsory for music festivals, sports events and other mass events after 19 July, according to the Daily Mail.
Instead organisers will be allowed to run their own schemes if they wish, and the Premier League is among those expected to introduce some form of certification.
The government has been reviewing the use of COVID passports for entry to venues, and had already decided to shelve plans to use the measure in pubs and restaurants.
A research programme was also conducted into how mass events can go ahead safely, with thousands allowed to attend club nights, festivals and comedy gigs as part of the project.
But some scientists have criticised the use of the research programme, saying it couldn't provide a useful conclusion because coronavirus cases were very low at the time and only 15% of people returned their test results afterwards.""

Y Not has bit the dust 😞 The govt are happily standing by as a whole industry goes (even more) tits up. Yet I watched tennis last night with full capacity?

It was half capacity I think … to become full capacity later on but absolutely point stands … it’s totally bonkers

Gutted. This was the only one we had left. How the fuck can we have 140k at F1 (I am a massive f1 fan btw) but festivals cancelled. This is bollox.

Every time I see a cancellation and the comment on how the government have fucked this industry it makes me think, let's see how everyone's memories are when the time comes to vote. I appreciate it's some way away but anyone affected needs to remember the past 16 months when it's ballot time. Will the hundreds of thousands who lost livelihoods or had their opportunities to socialise and have fun stolen from them by the sheer contempt of the government towards them make their feelings known in a democratic way? Or will it be turkeys voting for Christmas again when the time comes?

Happily some organisations had the foresight to shift dates to late summer, otherwise we'd be looking at a complete catastrophe. I'm still hugely sceptical of the 19th July date, I still feel that there'll be restrictions of some description. Either way, we haven't seen the end of this.

It's all just optics isn't it. They don't give two shits about the events industry. 140K at F1 will be touted as a huge British success, hurrah the British GP goes ahead, god bless the Queen etc.

Isn’t it likely the vast majority from these industries wouldn’t be voting Tory anyway … so pissing them off has no net effect ?
