I don't understand the comments on here.

The test events weren't extensive and crucially the people there had all passed a lateral flow test and often these events were distanced and outdoors.

How do you conclude from these conditions that gigs can now happen without proof of having antibodies (and especially that indoor gigs can happen)?

You can't.

I think the assumption is that testing for now then merging into vaccine proof only is just it now, that's our reality - I don't think the article is suggesting gigs would happen without those things. The only real part up for debate is how long tests will be an acceptable thing to use, but that debate is months away

Exactly, we shouldn't infer that on 21 June it's suddenly a big free for all as that article suggests and some are commenting.

I think the options for non-social distancing are:

OUTSIDE

- passing of a test

INSIDE

- passing of a test

- wearing a mask (but no drinking)

I went to a gig last night overseas. It was indoors, no social distancing, and the only requirement was to wear a mask.

They wont be doing that indoors after May 17th. Theyll be an exemption for mask wearing for drinking.

Just now, xxialac said:

That's for pubs, not for mass events.

You can't have an exemption for mass events or you might as well not be wearing a mask at all.

No it's for all the theatre and gigs which are going ahead and comedy clubs.

I haven't seen anything which would make me think that will change post June 21st

I think it's completely unrealistic personally that you'll be able to walk into a packed indoor gig or comedy event on June 22nd with no significant covid mitigation measures.

Well the test event in Liverpool is a club with testing, but no social distancing or masks. That could easily form a template for indoor gigs too, with no masks and drinking allowed.

Well lets see. They have made recommendations, and im not saying that masks wont be mandatory, but May 17th onwards, you can take your mask off to have a drink. They wont ban drinking post June 21st.

Yes, exactly.

I think tested events will work fine and that's ideal surely.

But indoor events with no testing and people taking their masks off half the time is a guarantee of spreading.

Indoor events works fine in Spain presently, even with higher covid cases there, as the masks stay on.

Just a full report please, bud!

Ben

(and have a bloody fantastic time!)

Thanks, i'll try! Must admit i'm quite nervous though. It's like, i'm not worried about the virus side of things, but i've done very little socialising in the past year so to go from that to being in a crowded room with thousands of people... it's a strange one.

I hope you can set that aside and have a good one! Very jealous!

Just run a simple test before you talk to anyone.  Run it through your head, and try and remember if it's something you've said on the Friday night zoom calls. If our response was stunned silence, maybe not one for general conversation 🤣

Have a great time pal!

I'm going to that event in Liverpool tonight. Anyone got any questions or things they want me to look out for? Will try posting an update tomorrow.

Very jealous of this, have a great time! Understandably you might be nervous after little socialising over the last year or so.

Would be keen to hear how quick entry is & just generally if people act any differently to how they would in the before times.

I know how you feel.

Feel like I’ve forgotten how to talk to people in person!

Sure you’ll have a great time!

I think we need to get the industry running even to a basic level - walk before we can run, and that means outdoors. If we'd been told this summer you can have outdoor gigs but not indoor ones (with trials on indoor events in late summer ahead  of the weather changing) we'd have probably been surprised (in a good way). I think we're getting away with one here if we get outdoor music of any kind and that was the miraculous best case scenario.

Its still not guaranteed because if you had scientists saying big gatherings should wait til next year but politically you didn't want to piss off the public by outright banning events, then running test events to show its safe but still not underwriting insurance (because nobody can guarantee anything) then you get them cancelled but let the market decide and not you. I'll still believe it when I see confirmation of the insurance, but I'm a bit more optimistic than I was previously

The test events for clubs are a bit different - that's an industry that never goes outside so it is worth them testing it out.

I don't see why we can't have a light touch regime for outdoor events (no indoor stages, gel stations everywhere etc).

And then let indoor event promoters choose whether to have an a) mandatory testing/proof of vaccination policy or b) a mask/no drinking policy.

Would mean no super spreading but still allow events to go ahead.

I agree on the first part - especially with current England numbers, it’s very low risk.

I think indoor events should be based on mandatory test/vaccination. We know face coverings have their limits in indoor crowded situations and also, if you take away the bar takings a lot of these events become unviable anyway.
