Is there exit poll stuff for locals?  At ten sharp I expect.  Also, when are the counts complete? Do they work through the night?

Yeah i forgot when I visited Romania in 1990 I couldn't move for the Ferrari's and Porsches everywhere. Seriously these people would laugh at our "cost of living crisis" I've never seen poverty like it outside of Africa.

Yeah and you cant move for berry bushes in Salford…

Having been to Bucharest for a wedding in 2018, there weren’t many ferraris or porsches after 30 years of capitalism.

Here is a chart of food supply broken down into calories per day for the old USSR vs the US. Data from the UN food and agriculture agency.

Not that I’m defending the USSR. Just pointing out that your comment that poor Brits should go out and forage because anecdotally you see Polish people doing it near you (which is probably bollocks anyway) is like a comedy bit of the kind of really dumb thing one might overhear some dumb idiot saying in the pub. Thats all.

Even if you wanted to do it in england, you only have right to access about 8% of the land, the rest is owned by all your poxy barons and dukes so you’d be trespassing/poaching.

Could you point out where I said that? I was giving an example of those skills being lost in this country due to our higher standard of living whilst the people that grew up under socialism still know how to do that. We obviously won't need to do that as Corbyns lot got wiped out in the last election. Starmer seems to have a brain at least.

Amongst back and forth about some tory dick’s comments about Brits being unable to cut their cloth, you responded saying Polish people can forage. The implication is that Polish people know how to cut their cloth because they are even poorer and poor English folks could learn a thing or two.

I’m pretty sure that foraging has fuck all to do with people being poor in Poland, just as it doesn’t in richer countries where it is also widespread (like the nordic nations), and is instead just a cultural thing.

If anything its more likely to be associated with wealth. If you grow up in a big countryside pile in England and have the freedom and time that money permits, you are probably far more likely to know about foraging than if you are brought up in an Urban setting where its simply not possible. Unless you want people to forage in the tesco bins for out of date berries?

Nope the comment was regarding people knowing own brand stuff is cheaper than branded and discount supermarkets have good stuff. Someone said it was obvious and I said not necessarily otherwise Martin Lewis wouldn't have a career. I then gave an example of a type of cheaper living which would be obvious to alot of the Poles i see around here but I wouldn't know how to do. Its all comparative on how we've lived before. I've had to shop at discounters when I started out but I've never collected mushrooms.

Like most of the internet you've wanted to be outraged at reading something and haven't read the comment properly.

Okay, then it was completely irrelevant to everything and still completely fucking stupid.

That TUC thing is a an annoying tease, I thought it was their own version of an exit poll, but instead it's about 73% thinking the govt hasn't done enough to help with the cost of living crisis (quite frankly I thought it would be higher!).

So with only England reporting through the night this is Labour's moment to lose.

Really hoping Westminster flips tonight. I've still not forgiven them for paying the train fare for benefits claimants to offload them on Hastings back in the 80s.

Polls closed, no exit poll but counting shouldn't take long as only a few dozen bothered voting.

No different from how it's always been. I used to be a polling clerk over 30 years ago & local elections were always really boring because so few people turned up. 16 hour days & about 30% turnout - decent money but, fuck me, they were the longest days of my life!

Can't be arsed to vote but can definitely be arsed to moan about potholes etc

I voted LD as it's between them and Tories for our council seats. Interestingly the surrounding area is Labour and our MP is Labour though. Fairly confident it'll stay the same.

Lib Dem or Tory is the only choice here too. Although I voted for a Shadow Council, which isn't nearly as interesting or MCU as it sounds

Results starting to come in. Heavy losses for the Tories so far although expect them to ignore those in the media and talk about the few seats they have taken from Labour.

A seat going from red to blue purely because of UKIP no longer splitting the right wing vote.

Best website I’ve found so far for showing results in your area as they come in

Feeling very left out of the party today with no local elections, but like you I'm in a blue heartland so wouldn't have made a difference.

Anymore news/speculation about Westminster perhaps turning NOC? Never thought I'd see that area revolt against the tories. Maybe all the richos migrated to the country during covid and not come back yet...

Here you go.

Incredible for Labour to take these Councils, what a crushing incitement of the Tories.

Where are you? (I appreciate that might be too much info)

Ok...so far seems to be Tories doing badly on S England, especially London, but Labour not doing as well as they would hope in England outside London. Up north maybe they forgive the brexit king boris and do love a bit of send them to rwanda. So, definitely lots of work to do by labour, and at moment I still think Johnson will lead tories into next election and they'll win another majority...unless of course the economy goes tits up...oh...

the other 92% are housing estates.

I think I've told you before that I'm in Ealing as you said your sister lived there. The overall council is Labour but our specific ward tends to go Lib Dem with Tories in second, so I stuck with LD. Rupa Huq is our MP so it's a pretty Laboury borough.
