Not really politics, but so grim. Something very wrong.

Sickening but not surprised. The kind of scum that behave like this know that even if caught fuck all will happen, just look at the rape conviction rates, a fuckin disgrace. Parents need to start teaching their kids morals, respect and how to be a decent human. All I hear from our leaders is empty words and no action, all bollocks. Too many victims out there, and will continue to be until there is a real marked change in behaviours and attitude towards women. What I would say is those of you who do have daughters, please have these conversations with them to ensure that they at least have awareness, you won't always be there to protect them. Also, it's important to state that not all lads behave this way, there are some nice blokes out there. Apologies for rant but speaking as dad with experience.

Yeah, I got a daughter who is 16...so this is scary. Hate to go back to the net again but think at least part of the reason for this is unlimited porn that youngsters can access now, and how that is warping how they treat girls and sex.

Just have to hope this becomes a big enough story that something is done about it.

Yep, absolutely. Not just the porn thing, its the media in general, with certain TV channels pushing the boundaries of acceptability, all in the name of viewing figures, no wonder some kids are confused, mixed messages, social media pressure, mates pressure, a fuckin nightmare. Society has got to change perceptions and behaviours,we all have a part to play (all on here know that, apologies). You're right to worry as a dad, but just remember to step back a little and let them grow, its a difficult balance, but all part of being a decent parent. Its not all doom and gloom, most kids are just that, kids. Fuck me, they've had to deal with a shit ton more stuff than I ever did at their age, I'm just thankful I lived my teen years when I did, today I'd be fucked.

Absolutely awful. I wish more could be done about this but at the moment it seems all that is happening is girls are being told to be "vigilant". When really it shouldn't be like that and they should be able to enjoy themselves on a night out.

Saw a friend post something on instagram earlier about a few girls contracting HIV after being injected with stuff on a night out recently.

My daughter started uni and this is a big issue for her and freinds too. I mean what is wrong with people. Is this what we are now. One scared dad here right now.

This is all horrible, but I think it's a misapprehension that this is a new thing. Awful men have been abusing women for years. I do think it gets reported and called out more these days, which may make it seem like its on the increase, but actually this is a good thing - bringing it out into the open more.

Historically, sexualised chat, cat-calling, groping etc. occurred much more in the workplace, which thankfully seems to have been decreasing over the last few years.

I myself (white guy in 40s) rarely see this kind of behaviour from other guys. I am NOT saying that means it's not going on, or that it is being overblown. The point I'm making is that I think most men who do it, know what they are doing is wrong, and so choose when and where to do it, choosing situations where the victims are more vulnerable, where there are not onlookers to step in etc. They know it's wrong.

Whilst of course young women are better protected if they are aware of these things there is only so much you can do, if you are going out you are at some risk and that is horrible. It is also why the onus shouldn't be on these young women to be scared and prepared instead the focus has to be on the attitudes and behaviour of young men. So those of you who have sons probably also need to be having conversations about this too.

I have both and they are at the moment far too young to have to worry about this sort of thing, but in a decades time I do admit I have no idea how best to go about these conversations but they need to be had.

This. I know most parents don't want to think their children are capable of this kind of behaviour. And I reckon that in most cases, they'd be right. But they still need to have the conversation, because many of these young men, while not doing anything wrong themselves, will know people who do behave like this, maybe even close friends, and it is incumbent on them to call out this behaviour. It's not acceptable to turn a blind eye to this any more.
