TakedownMRAs on Twitter: ""The Right is starting to get better and comedy now and it's making lefties nervous"… "

The trick is:

If their point is widely agreed with then it's a valid argument.
If their point is widely disliked than what they said was a joke.

"I didn't mean all french people should actually get bombed it was joke, god you lefties can't take a joke"

with all the tory nobs on here and so in turn all the tory nobs you must get at glastonbury these days, maybe they need a right field. They could have guest speakers like Rees Mogg, Patel and twatty guido fawkes man.

You jest but there was a thread to this effect a couple of years back that descended rapidly into the usual kind of thing.

Here is an index of social mobility. What do the top countries have in common?

A proper progressive tax system and a large welfare state.

What you missed from that is tax rates so highveven for the low paid it'd make everyone scream. You never see people advocating for high tax rates for the low paid.

If you think bright people are put off from starting businesses in a country with an expansive welfare state, you’d also be mistaken with Sweden having the largest number of ’unicorn’ startups per capita anywhere outside of silicon valley.

In the end, the kind of smart, creative people who are driven to innovate are more interested in living, and raising kids, in a functioning society and paying a little bit more tax.

Otherwise why aren’t tax havens absolute loaded with young, bright, aspirational tech guys?

Why don’t all the young bright sparks of Europe go and live in the Czech Republic where personal tax is a flat 15%.

Every argument you raise falls short. It is just baloney. I’d recommend going to a library (quick whilst they’re still free!) and doing some reading.

If David wasn't who he is he'd have probably cashed in big time by now very woke his ethos run thru every strand of the festival.

he's so lovely

I don’t really know the process or whether it’s feasible but he really is the best choice for labour leader IMO. Because the Labour Party is the Labour Party he probably will never be.

well...I don't know...we've been round this a few times now...he's the golden boy at the moment, and I do like him...but it's a lot easier being mayor of manchester than labour leader. He did have a good pandemic though...and he's got a lovely nothern accent that makes him sound all real and working class like everyone up north.

He's got to get back into westminster though first.

I feel like he’d at least go and visit some of the constituencies that are swinging Tory. Corbyn / Kier were happy to see them go.

He’s the only person I can think of as well that could challenge Boris on the cheeky chappie factor. Do the Sun / Mail have anything on him?

He doesn’t have skeletons in his closet (that we know of) that the Murdoch media can get him with.

Keir went to Hartlepool and they were offended because he ate chips and drank a pint.

But, yeah...Burnham has got bags more of the x-factor than Starmer...he's got plenty of experience inside and outside westminster and goverment...maybe he would do a good job...I don't know...

I feel like burnham would be able to talk about casual topics like football and probably seem less awkward in his conversations. I feel like Andy could at least have a conversation with them

He's made a whole load of promises around public transport in Manchester, so let's see how he gets on with that. I remember when he first stood Manchester, like a lot of places, had a bad homeless problem. You were literally stepping over bodies in sleeping bags when you walked towards picadilly train station. It definitely has improved, but not sure how much of that is him. He did set up a charity hostel thing for homeless which he contributed some of his wage.

A lot of that was down to the pandemic. There was a real effort to get homeless people off the streets and in to hotels and youth hostels and such. A lot of our city hostels (including Manchester I think) are still being used for this. Hopefully the efforts continue in some form. In Cardiff for example the council have actually bought our hostel off us (and I think some hotels) to keep using for this reason

nah Burnham did some good stuff setting up a bed every night long before the pandemic and he donates 15% of his own salary to it.

as Stevie says, coming out of piccadilly train station towards the gardens about 5 years ago it was a sorry sight, was like skid row, it was much improved well before covid hit. Burnham done gone.

Between restricting the right to protest and now moves towards disenfranchising voters... who was the one who said fascism was an exaggeration?

Maybe it is. I don’t think the people at the top really care about advancing British ethno-nationalism but just use that to get power and enrich themselves and their pals. More accurately then, the UK is sliding quickly into putinist gangster capitalism. A rotten disinterested regime which continues to increasingly rig the system in order to gild their own palms.

Maybe in 20 years time we’ll see dodgy British oligarchs buying up real estate, football clubs and getting poloniumed overseas.
