Guido is a renowned far right site, but interesting that it's tighter than previously thought. It seems it's because voters have put smaller parties as their first choice.

"complacency from voters" is quite the quote lmao

Retire some old codger and parachute Burnham in.

yeah...maybe...but soon as Burnham is there he will be restricted by the same old shit of trying not to offend anyone and in the end not pleasing anyone. Burnham wasn't that left wing or anything...he was Blairite then Brownite...and has the luxury of being able to be normal as Gtr Manc mayor, well spoken northern guy, but being labour leader is whole different ball game.

I said it in here the other day but I think Starmer's big issue at the moment is that he's not seen as being genuine. There's too much of his public persona that looks contrived. He was at his strongest during the brexit negotiations when you could see he was passionate about what he was fighting for. He doesn't have that same passion as Leader of the Party and it shows.

Burnham has, at least, that "man of the people" aura about him, certainly since he's been mayor if not before, so it gives him a fighting chance.

Plus, like you say, he's northern.

There are people there but I don't think they should be looking at changing leader, they need to focus on putting together policy ideas that appeal to the public.

yeah...I mean, I like him. I voted for him this morning. But I just can imagine everyone slagging him off 6 months after he becomes labour leader because he isn't left/centrist enough.

The top reason people didn't vote Labour last December was corbyn. Wonder if the people pushing the Starmer thing have accepted that yet

I don't have a horse in the Corbyn/Starmer race but it seems a lot like that the problem is a lot bigger than either of them.

I’m reaching the point where I just want to throw my hands up and say fuck it. People are now consistently voting directly against their best interests in terms of social and economic policy out of fear and a desire for “change”, without acknowledging they’re voting for more of the same. A Tory government is, economically speaking at least, fairly decent for me, so what’s even the point in fighting it anymore? I grew up in the north and I totally get the frustrations, but they’re going in totally the wrong direction and I almost just want to watch it play out until they realise exactly what they’ve voted for time and again.

I won’t throw in the towel because that’s precisely what they want, but damn it’s getting more and more tempting.

This argument is actually really refreshing - in a strange way.

They will call you a disconnected wokie despite coming from the same communities - but yeah nothing is going to change unless things get noticeably worse for them.

I always find it weird that people say that the electorate won't vote for Starmer because he's too much part of the London elite, forgetting that they vote for Johnson who is there epitomisation of the London elite.

Yeah - I think it’s because when they say elite they mean middle class socialists. Not Tory bankers.

They should have gone with Lisa nandy but I think she fucked it when she said she was anti-royalty.
