Life skills are relative otherwise Martin Lewis wouldn't be a multimillionaire. You watch the Polish around here who grew up under socialism and they know which berries and mushrooms to pick and are out in the park collecting nettles to make soup, its probably obvious to them but if I tried it I'd end up poisoning myself.

“Good advice” In the same way recommending a bucket to fix a hole in the roof is good advice.

that would be shit advice, a bucket won't fix the roof.

Hahaha you almost had me going here!

But I see now you must be doing a very good bit of ’guy down the pub who says the dumbest shit you’ve heard’.

I'm not blaming her, but the main factor vin all this changing is the ideological shift in the court. That was a result of her death and them rushing through a conservative replacement. She had the opportunity to handpick a successor to be the voice of reason and continue her legacy.

The way the republicans acted was not a shock, the fact that America has lots of idiotic people is not a shock and unfortunately the reality is old people are more likely to die. It's possible to be a great person and make mistakes. Most mistakes don't have much of an impact, unfortunately hers had big consequences.

I don't think it's on the RBG thing alone though. That was absolutely unfortunate and I do agree that in retrospect retirement in 2009/10 may not have been the worst thing. But the nature of how this has gone since the Republicans retook the Houses of Congress in 2014 has defined this. They basically stopped Obama from filling hundreds of judge vacancies then, when Trump was elected, flooded them with biased judges.

Trump in some respects was fortunate to get 3 Supreme Court vacancies - 1 that Obama tried to fill in 2016 that Republicans blocked until after the 2016 election, 1 freed by a surprise retirement that was replaced by a man wholly unfit for the job, and the vacancy after the death of RBG that Republicans made a mockery of their 2016 "do not fill this in an election year" stance by rushing one in, even after the confirmation party gave many top-ranking Republicans covid. But equally, they've used this to their advantage, even with the cost of the court's credibility.

It's weird in a way to see this, where people voted for Democrats in 2020 but where the biggest driver of legislation at a national level is this hyper-conservative court. Equally, I feel like the fallout from stripping Roe vs Wade and letting a lot of but not all states immediately ban all abortion is going to get very toxic very quickly. To say nothing of the Supreme Court's efforts, as one article on The Atlantic called it earlier, to try and undo the social movements of the 20th Century.

I'd love to shop in Aldi or Lidl but unfortunately we don't have a car and there aren't any close enough to carry shopping back from. Sure that's the case for quite a few poorer people (not putting myself in that category).

George Eustice won’t be happy with you.

Yeah i forgot when I visited Romania in 1990 I couldn't move for the Ferrari's and Porsches everywhere. Seriously these people would laugh at our "cost of living crisis" I've never seen poverty like it outside of Africa.

Really hoping for a bloody nose for the Tories tomorrow. Just give us this.

They’ll lose seats but because this is the 2018 seats where Labour also did quite well then it won’t be a massive result. Either way though gains will be made.

Keep an eye on the vote share.

we'll see...I'm not expecting much...tories losing seats, labour gaining some, lib dems gaining some, but not enough to change anything and for a move against Johnson. Turnout will likely be low, and I think there are probably a lot of people who voted tory in 2019 who won't vote because don't like the alternative enough. Govt are doing a lot of pushing...labour not doing enough pulling. Starmer's poll ratings are better than Johnson, but he's still unpopular. I think trust and respect for politicians is at an all time low, which is a shame really.

Plus...there will be local issues, after all these are council elections and really nothing to do with Johnson and Starmer and which ever gate you think is worse.

No, it’s literally as I said it. It’s very difficult for Labour to gain massive numbers several people more in the know about these things than me have said this. It’s not a slight on Labour it’s because they did well in 2018 and these elections will be the last of the red wall realignment.

Bristol City Council is holding a referendum on how the council is run. There will be a choice between the current system of a directly elected mayor who appoints a cabinet, and a committee model of governance where the party with a majority of councillors would run the council.

I just voted. We’re in a Tory stronghold so doubt it will make much difference. Just hoping there’s enough to embarrass Johnson.

Surprisingly, The Sun didn’t go with any kind of rallying Save Boris headlines and the Mail’s Beer Starmer agenda doesn’t seem to have cut through.
