But then you have to do that for everyone that asks, and everyone starts asking. If you don't know someone who would have liked to have a outdoor vigil in a park for their loved one with more than the 15/30 people they were allowed at a time then you're damn lucky.

I think they jumped at the chance - I'm sure we're undergoing economic upheaval from Brexit right now but it's essentially impossible to split that out from the upheaval caused by COVID.

Yep, no one batted an eyelid at those reports of imports being down 40% last week. In many ways, it’s a convenient tragedy for them to bury bad news.

What if the victim of crime is one of those living statues who busk in public spaces – a Queen Victoria, say, or a Statue of Liberty? Do you prosecute the defendant as though he’s merely harmed a woman, or do you go for the fullest force of law and treat him as if he has defaced an inanimate object?

Good point from Jon Trickett "This govt claims to have its roots in libertarianism. And of course they are champions of liberty, but it;s liberty only for the powerful and the wealthy."

Silence from the right wing libertarian crowd regarding this horrendous bill, but not surprising.

these bills are provocations. greatly increases the odds of protests becoming riots. this allows tories to justify the bills, write off the protestors as looney left extremists, and do so whilst giving a sense of insecurity in the realm which the tories always thrive off.

I imagine it's actually quite popular too...most people don't go on protests...and probably don't have much truck with Extinction Rebellion or Black Lives Matter.

And then there's Churchill statues to worry about.
