Sickening but not surprised. The kind of scum that behave like this know that even if caught fuck all will happen, just look at the rape conviction rates, a fuckin disgrace. Parents need to start teaching their kids morals, respect and how to be a decent human. All I hear from our leaders is empty words and no action, all bollocks. Too many victims out there, and will continue to be until there is a real marked change in behaviours and attitude towards women. What I would say is those of you who do have daughters, please have these conversations with them to ensure that they at least have awareness, you won't always be there to protect them. Also, it's important to state that not all lads behave this way, there are some nice blokes out there. Apologies for rant but speaking as dad with experience.

My daughter started uni and this is a big issue for her and freinds too. I mean what is wrong with people. Is this what we are now. One scared dad here right now.

This is all horrible, but I think it's a misapprehension that this is a new thing. Awful men have been abusing women for years. I do think it gets reported and called out more these days, which may make it seem like its on the increase, but actually this is a good thing - bringing it out into the open more.

Historically, sexualised chat, cat-calling, groping etc. occurred much more in the workplace, which thankfully seems to have been decreasing over the last few years.

I myself (white guy in 40s) rarely see this kind of behaviour from other guys. I am NOT saying that means it's not going on, or that it is being overblown. The point I'm making is that I think most men who do it, know what they are doing is wrong, and so choose when and where to do it, choosing situations where the victims are more vulnerable, where there are not onlookers to step in etc. They know it's wrong.

Whilst of course young women are better protected if they are aware of these things there is only so much you can do, if you are going out you are at some risk and that is horrible. It is also why the onus shouldn't be on these young women to be scared and prepared instead the focus has to be on the attitudes and behaviour of young men. So those of you who have sons probably also need to be having conversations about this too.

I have both and they are at the moment far too young to have to worry about this sort of thing, but in a decades time I do admit I have no idea how best to go about these conversations but they need to be had.

This. I know most parents don't want to think their children are capable of this kind of behaviour. And I reckon that in most cases, they'd be right. But they still need to have the conversation, because many of these young men, while not doing anything wrong themselves, will know people who do behave like this, maybe even close friends, and it is incumbent on them to call out this behaviour. It's not acceptable to turn a blind eye to this any more.

yeah, and you're right in some ways things have improved, but in many other ways they really haven't. And this thing, where there are so many reports of women being drugged either in their drinks or now using needles, and then abused and/or raped seems particularly grim. Now, I don't know how widespread it actually  is, and I really don't know if men think it's wrong, maybe some do, but maybe some think it's a bit of a laugh.

needs to be taught more in schools too, and I think actually they are trying to address this, especially with rise in sexual assaults and rapes in schools.

I have both and have had the conversations with both of them. Somtimes awkward of course but essential. Watching them squirm as I explain about porn and me being uncomfortable underneath is all part of it.

However, always fun watching them squirm when Mrs Q and Me kissed in front of them 🙂

I know we're not supposed to talk about here but Javid doing a presser at 5. Supposedly mainly about boosters. Hope they have journo questions.

there's a bit of a reunion on the covid thread talking about all this, it's a joy. If it is a press conference then surely that means questions from press are taken. But yeah, it will be a big push on boosters and vaccinating teenagers, and no need for plan B...yet.....

...and so has our resident Prof @Toilet Duck along with his great mini lectures on all things virology related. Sorely missed.

I’m still here!! I started a new role in work around the time the c*vid thread shut down (entirely coincidental!) and it has me a bit swamped, basically a whole new job on top of my existing one…but I’ll always check in on the forums, just don’t have as much time for shooting the breeze at the moment, but it’ll settle down.

shooting the breeze is a phrase we need to hear more of.

Just reading it now (I still read it sometimes but just don't want to contribute due to the aggressive posting style of most of the inhabitants!)...
