Your most controversial music opinions

Back on topic I'll concede a hasty response to fade outs as all bad. They aren't.

But what they so often feel like is a get out clause for someone who couldn't figure out how to finish a song.

They're the Stephen King endings of the music world.

I honestly rarely notice and didn't even twig until now that it could be considered a plus or minus - unless the band do something flash e.g. the way the Smashing Pumpkins conclude Rocket.

Keeping it to the Stones, off the top of my head Gimme Shelter fades out but Brown Sugar ends conclusively. And I wouldn't say either approach is superior to the other.

It's a far greater musical crime to be Anthony Kiedis with a sock on your willy rapping about the demon in your semen.

The Pumpkins are a great example of this. Mellon Collie is almost entirely songs with composed endings (28 of them at that), but the few fade-outs are very deliberate, and occur on the couple of great songs with fade-ins for the intro. If nothing else, Corgan is very deliberate with what he does.

Fuck Keidis it is all about Kelis.

Sometimes, usually late at night, Kelis is just the greatest. No Contest (on topic)

Absolute banger. Big fan of the Dave Aude Remix too if you’ve not heard it.

The scratching on that live version is however terrible and completely ruins the whole thing.

Uncontroversial take: Radmac eating crisps into the mic every Saturday morning is the worst thing that's ever happened in the history of radio.

I dunno, irritating as that is I’m not sure it’s as bad as the Shirehorses (aka Mark & Lard) parody albums.

I’d be fairly certain that at some point in time Jonny Vaughan has done something worse.

Least controversial opinion on the thread. No-one really likes a fade out.

I like fade outs that introduce a new element, The Beatles did it often. See Doctor Robert, Ticket To Ride and Hello, Goodbye.

Not Dr Robot, although I'd love to watch that TV show.
