The Scottish education system really reached its peak with standard Grades! It’s been all downhill since then. I assume that was for a credit and not a foundation or general level! All I remember from my French O grade was the luscious French foreign language assistant Madamoiselle Frauciel who smoked Gaulois fags and tormented us teenage boys.

An ace live band with great stage presence and a repertoire of hits unlike any other? Saw them a month later at WHP and they were equally ace with a different set list. They're the dog's danglies when it comes to putting on a show for the masses. All but 6 are covers.
Hugh Jass
Punk’s alright, disco’s alright. I don’t really get why, in 2021, it has to be either/or. CalGon remains undefeated the forum’s undisputed champion of shitting on things he doesn’t like.
Avalon_Fields
I was massively into punk (Clash, Stranglers, Jam, Siouxsie, etc) whilst still loving prog rock (Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd) so I was probably alone in liking both at the time. I though disco was naff (Apart from Donna Summer). I was wrong about disco. I wasn’t wrong about punk. It gave me some of my best music memories. Alex DeLarge
My controversial music opinion is you can tell the age of this forum from the fact we have bloody punk vs. disco albums in the 2020s.

Heavy rock , zeppelin, sabbath , purple and the progressive bands you mentioned as well as less well known bands such as Uriah Heep and Atomic Rooster. The arrival of punk which I loved didn’t stop me liking the classic rock acts. Disco didn’t appeal though the BeeGees were the exception! As the years passed I find you become less snobbish and clannish about music. That’s the beauty of Glastonbury, from the Avalon to the pyramid, just great music of every genre everywhere. Apart from jazz, I can’t get it, never have and I’ve tried!
henry bear
It's all Rock & Roll* as far as I'm concerned. Different strands of, some of which I may prefer than others, but it's all good. *not literally Rock & Roll, but music of the Rock/Pop era
priest17
Kanye West is modern punk.

Fairy snuff, I wasn't there but would agree his set was a tad ropey. Artists all have an off day, look at some of glasto performances over the years, expectations dashed occasionally. I only replied 9 months later as news of his illness is recent, thought the 13 min clip was quite moving, your post came up when I searched Tony Bennett hence my belated reply 😊
fatyeti24
I loved that Tony Bennet performance. After several days in the mud and shit (I did spend quite a bit of that weekend in the Dance Tent) it was a wonderful tonic. It gave me, as a then 20 year old, a fondness for crooners that I still have today. The juxtaposition between the world he represented - all spotless shiny suits and Vegas standards, against the hordes of the mud caked, 5 days deep Glasto crowd was something that's not often, if ever, really been repeated on the farm.

My old man used to play that sort of music (and jazz) all the time, so I only went to see Tony Bennett so I could tell my Dad that I'd seen him. He always used to say to me "you'll get into it when you get older", but I'm 56 now & I still hate it, so I don't think I ever will!

True, for me. I used to not talk about old music on here as it shows my age. But now I just think fuck it I’m glad I’m old enough to have seen Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, The Clash, etc.

Gentle Giant and King Crimson this week… Occasionally I'll pick a genre and listen to all the main acts involved. Right now I'm doing 70's prog, previously I've only listened to king crimson and pink floyd (who I love). I've not listened to gentle giant yet but they are on the list. So far I've concluded two things: genesis and jethro tull are so unbearably terrible it's hard to convey with words and secondly Focus rock! They bring the fun and energy of Hocus Pocus to a lot of their songs. I was pleasantly surprised by them
