Worth putting a caveat that none of those should be used as indicative for this year - Eilish was coming out of COVID with demand levels unknown, Radiohead was a couple weeks after the ticket sale, and as best I can tell REM wasn't properly official until later than that.

Yep, since moving to deposit scheme, no acts have been officially confirmed before ticket day. For Eilish, there was no ticket sale that year.

REM was Michael confirming them on Radio 1

First time for everything! Cost of living, ticket and campervan price rises.

A lot of smaller events struggled to sell tickets and break even last year, if it’s worse this year it will move up the chain.  They may think it’s worth dropping a bone.

They'll have a vague idea of how many people might try for tickets based on how many confirmed their registrations. I can't imagine they'd announce anything before ticket day unless it's looking v bad.

I can't imagine Glastonbury not selling out like it always does anytime soon, regardless of line-up, cost of living or anything else.

That's about the size if it. Even with the cost of living crisis there are still more than enough folk with their heads above water for demand to still comfortably exceed supply

Agreed it is bizarre the number of people who ask me about it every year. Totally random types in all situations. When I start waffling on about how to get tickets and the logistics they often look perturbed.

When people bring up 2008, it’s worth remembering the context of a) the horror show of 2007 b) the sudden explosion of festivals with big name headliners and c) the competition from existing big festivals.

You wonder what T day would look like if we still had a festival landscape with a fully functional two-site V Festival, a T In The Park (which frequently had a better lineup at the top of the bill than Glastonbury), a Reading with the kind of pull it had circa 2010…

😄 i love that conversation. Getting everyone registered, groups of six, everyone trying for tickets, 9am on a sunday morning, camping choices, the amount of stages and things to do, travel logistics, etc etc etc. Typically people just scowl at me and say 'but i just thought you'd be able to get them, because you always go!'

its cos i volunteer! i dont get access to a magic tickets bucket for all my pals, as good as that might be

I could not cope with the stress of trying for tickets the regular way!
