To be fair I'm not sure about "expect". It's possible, is how Whitty worded it. I can understand them wanting to be cautious this early into the vaccine rollout. You seem to have taken "it's possible we will have some minor restrictions next winter" (in a worst case scenario) and turned it into "it's definitely going to happen".

Not looking to have a go, btw. Appreciate this is a stressful time for everyone.

I don't believe restrictions are definitely going to happen, but I believe they are likely based on what we've been told. We've surpassed "worst case scenario" at almost every other point during this.

Anyway, it's probably true that my feelings stem from emotion rather than logic right now. I have everything crossed for good times ahead.

You genuinely think it would be a big surprise if there was no social distancing 13 months from now?

I tend to agree with the OP (as much as that pains me), personally (like I know anything ) I think the summer we'll all relax and then by November next year the figures will start increasing, we'll be in a panic to vaccinate again , and to save the NHS and some forms of social distancing and restrictions will be reintroduced. The difference is we will have seen how this summer pans out with figures etc so there maybe more of a chance of taking a punt on June and starting a build in March.....
