new viagra boys tune appeared yesterday, got the album out tomorrow so I didn't listen to the studio version but this live version is rad

 

I wanted to learn saxophone when I was 9 years old but gave up when I sacked off recorder practice to go play manhunt when my mate knocked on. Felt like I made the right decision to go with guitar through my teens but if I'd stuck with the bloody sax I'd be in my element these days. Just a fun little bit of background to flesh out the priest17 character for you all.

Snow Day was brilliant, but after repeated listens the two previous and this new Shame tracks are really missing that first albums lush sound and are sounding a bit too standard post-punk, losing any of the individuality they had. This could be any number of bands from the last ten years and I’m hoping for better on the rest of the album, but alas think this might just be the direction they’ve gone for this time ‘round:

The Bandit is alright as far as songs that wish they were Interpol songs go. Was hoping they'd do a Killers and come back with a surprise banger to be honest. And I'm pretty easy to please, I even listen to some of album 5 if its sunny enough.

Of the 30 tracks on my Release Radar today, 18 of them are remixes. I was really looking forward to today - I thought it would be "New Year, new music". Instead it's "New Year, retwiddled old music"

Not a very exciting release day today so will be checking back for recommendations. New one from Black Honey which is ok, and nice to hear that Gengahr have delivered on their tweet to start 2021 big with American Gods, great track.

I've got Viagra Boys on my list, that's about it. New songs by Here Lies Man and Kiwi Jr. Next week the new releases start piling up for me, particularly wanting that Sleaford Mods one.

Not paid much attention to Viagra Boys despite the frequent praise (albeit from like two posters) on here but gave the album a couple of spins now due to the lack of anything else out today and I’m digging it a lot.

Not sure if I'm one of the two but VBs are great, despite the appalling name. Iggy & The Stooges-lite. From the last album, check out 'Just Like You' and 'Sports' in particular. I'll be checking out the new album later, they're not really a morning band!

VBs is...OK.  Going to give it a double spin, but at the moment it's not quite my thing.  Not bad, but not something (at the moment) I'm likely to revisit.

There are definitely some good tunes on there, but not sure about a whole album of it.

Latest single from Virginia Wing’s upcoming album. Lovely, twinkling pop/synthpop.

I’m a huge fan of Virginia Wing and they would probably be my pick for the most underrated group of the last five years or so.

Luxembourg are back with a new single, some may remember them from the Angular Records releases in the 00s that included early Bloc Party, Art Brut  and The Long Blonde.  Many of you will not.

OK ignore that. Given it a second back to back listen and the good stuff definitely outweighs the meh. Don't know if it'll leap into regular rotation or just be something that's good but I don't really revisit. But yep, decent album that.

new one from Casper Clausen is a top listen, sounds like newer Gorillaz pop stuff throughout with light touches of Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem throughout (to my ears).
