The eFests Albums & Tracks of The Year - Submissions Thread

Ok here it goes I should caveat this list by saying that this year has been a strange year of music listening for me. Generally I have a lot of active listening times like when walking to the gym or when on public transport into Manchester. For obvious reasons that hasn't been happening and couple with work being busy as a bastard all year and me promising to read more I have tended to put on playlists of entire albums from the New music thread and had them on in the background. My lists have therefore been the ones that have grabbed my attention most. Maybe at another time some other albums might come to the forefront.

1 Laura Marling – Songs For Our Daughter

2 Billy NoMates – Billy NoMates

3 Sault – (Black Is)

4 Jessie Ware – What’s Your Pleasure

5 Gorillaz – Song Machine Season One

6 The Big Moon – Walk Like We Do

7 Haim – Women in Music Part III

8 Phoebe Bridgers – Punisher

9 Red Rum Club – The Hollow Of Humdrum

10 Beach Bunny – Honeymoon

Kind of cheating with my favourite songs and using it to pick the best tracks by artists that didn't make my album of the year in a lot of cases

1 Little Simz – Might Bang Might Not

2 Lianne Le Havas – Bittersweet

3 Roisin Murphy – Jealousy

4 Jarv is – Must I Evolve

5 Dream Wife -  After The Rain

6 The Orielles – Bobbi’s Second World

Taylor Swift - No Body, No Crime

7 Nadine Shah - Trad

8 Fontaines DC - A Lucid Dream

9 Bombay Bicycle Club - Everything Has Else Gone Wrong

10  Bob Vylan - We Live here

On another day I might pick a whole other selection but for today these are my choices and any glaring omissions are mine to own.

6 Laura Marling - Songs For Our Daughter

7 Baxter Dury - The Night Chances

8 Lanterns on the Lake - Spook The Herd

9 Creeper - Sex, Death and the Infinite

10 Roisin Murphy - Roisin Machine

honourable mention to Nadine Shah, who's album is awesome, but I couldn't quite find space for it on my list

That's why I put her in my songs of the year. Most of my songs of the year were from albums that I wish I could have found room for except for Little Simz which is legit banger of the year and Jarv Is which wouldn't have made my album of the year but does have some great tracks.

I thought about doing the 10 tracks, but I took a ludicrous amount of time deliberating on my album list it feels ridiculous to spend any more time thinking about it

Yes I don't tend to even remember song names a lot of the time. I've had a few stand out tracks this year but I did just use it to get some more artists in there.

Yeah I did similar, to a large extent. And Bobbi’s Second World would definitely have made my favourite tracks list had it not been for the fact that I played it to death when it first came out as a single, in 2018!

It's on their album released this year and that was the criteria wasn't it? I have substitutes if needed!! 😄

In fact I'm just about to embark on the hell on earth that is food shopping so if you need a substitute

Yeah I reckon it’s fine, was just justifying (to myself as much as anyone) why I hadn’t chosen it.

Big THANK YOU to everyone who's played!

I'll do my best to finish totting up the scores over the next day or so then my plan is-

  • Top Ten Tracks reveal - 23rd December
  • Top Ten Albums reveal - 24th December

At a time when most of us have so little to look forward to... I'm very excited by this 🙂
