Shit we know 1975 have been nominated can Kiwanuka really have missed out that seems impossible!!!
mattiloy
There are a couple I like amongst them but I gotta say for me compared to last year’s i think its a really weak vintage. Mostly pretty dull compared to last year, particularly the guitar-based acts. Feel like as well as Dave, Fontaines, Anna Calvi, Idles and slowthai albums last year would all walk this so far. Agree with @Tuna that girl band should be on there, great band, great album. So far for me Marling’s best work to date should get it.

Mattymooz
So Nadine's melt down was for nothing as 1975 wasn't nominated? 😁

I think with Kiwanuka we have our winner.

Sam Y
Surprised at no J Hus or Sam Fender but I'd say a good list

Wooderson
Kiwanuka has this sewn up.

Yep for me last year was a treat though I would have been happy with about half the list winning last year and that is rare.
Quark
Surprised Sam Fender didn't get a look in, though his album was really strong and would have been a decent representative for some classic guitar based shenanigans. Still would have lost out to Kiwanuka for me anyway

Not heard that one yet to be fair and I won't vote in the poll until I have listened to them all and that will take a while but for me it will take some beating. First time I heard it I thought it was sublime and still do.

gigpusher
I've got a lot of listening to do. Just as well as I also now have a lot of work to do. Seems a lot of the albums that I rated have missed out so I'll be keen to listen to these to see if they are imo better or worse.
dentalplan
So none of this year’s nominees are going to be this year’s biggest Mercury Prize loser. Very good list. My favourite is the Porridge mob but Kiwanuka’s name is on the trophy.

A lot of the voting is based off the performance on the night isn't it? His current show is superb.

I like(d) some of the singles, in fairness, but seeing them live found them awfully repetitive and try-hard. I also can’t help but think of this from Twitter whenever I hear of them 1
