So we booked Ryanair flights from Manchester arriving Tues dept on the Mon.

Got an email from Ryanair the other day saying they had been rescheduled to arrive Thurs and depart Sun?!

Gave the option to cancel and

1) would have meant missed Weds and part of Thurs and ruined Sat

2) looking more and more likely won't go ahead

We cancelled.

Hopefully see you all in 2022 😭

Yeah I had something similar with Ryanair, my flight going out on the Tuesday is unchanged so far but they changed my return flight from Tuesday to Monday (after cancelling the Monday return I had already booked months ago). I guess it makes it easier to cancel so probably not a bad thing.

Edit: Just realised I'm not in the Primavera thread!

Sorry, I wanted to ask if Spain is going through the vaccination process well? and do you think there is a possibility of a festival in 2021?

It's going the same as in Portugal and all EU countries i.e. quite slow.

Festivals in Spain by September - maybe.

June and July - no chance, it seems

I'd forgotten DCode Festival is also a thing in Madrid in September time. Would that potentially complicate matters for nudging this back to that time?

You'd imagine not in terms of demand. There must be a lot of people desperate to go to festivals.

However, Nos Alive have just done an interview suggesting a move to September is out of the question as too many festivals have already moved there (and I guess booked a lot of the bands), so they may be stuck with July or 2022. The same may well apply to Mad Cool, and I'd be amazed if July was possible in Spain.

Actually this was Nos Primavera - so that's mixed news for Mad Cool, rather than outright bad news!

Have you got a link to that Nos Alive article @bluenova?

You're right. Just edited it.

If you're referring to the Blitz article, I'm almost certain NOS Primavera didn't say that.

They said if enough festivals aren't brave enough to go ahead, then international bands may not tour and therefore they won't be able to put on a high quality lineup 'as advertised'.

So this is outright bad news for Mad Cool as they would surely be facing the same issue.

You may be able to translate the original article? I was going from the text in the Primavera thread, which reads to me that US/UK festivals have moved to September - it even mentions that it's due to the vaccination programme, so must be referring to this year. I read the next bit in that context, that a lot of the Primavera artists are now committed to US or UK festivals, so they can't move.

The fact that it's Nos Primavera, rather than Nos Alive, does make a difference in how it's read, as obviously early June is totally out, whereas a month later is very different.

The article is not particularly well written and obviously easy to misunderstand in translation but it's not saying that Primavera artists are committed to US or UK festivals and can't move.

It's main point rather is that they can't rely on the international bands they want as they are not in many cases touring and thus they could advertise a poster to fans...and then end up having to offer a different selection of bands.

They think this would be unfair to fans who would be sold one lineup and end up getting another.

And they only have two weeks to decide.

The Nos Primavera interviewee does say that he's referring to the festivals up to mid-June being in limbo.

I think it's the "defrauding" bit that makes it sound like he's ruling out rescheduling, but maybe that's been too strongly translated? In English saying some people might feel a bit cheated, would suggest it's a dilemma, rather than "defrauding", which suggests it would be a terrible thing to do.

The guy from the August vodaphone festival, and even Nos Alive sound a lot more positive. I suppose Nos/Mad Cool have maybe six weeks to decide what they're doing about . Primavera is having to decide in two. Mad Cool may also benefit from a lineup that's closer to the other big festivals that are seemingly more confident.

Yeah, definitely.

In the end, I think the big festivals will need to both all work together and then take a leap of faith for this to work.

Festivals are selling out now quickly in the UK so that information may give them hope that they can still achieve good ticket sales - even with altered lineups.

Madrid’s acclaimed Mad Cool Festival is still set for July. Organisers have said that they were “excited about the festival and currently waiting for the authorities to give an update regarding the next few months”, but were “definitely in a better mood than last year”.

“Our announced line-up, which is still missing two headliners and 11 more bands, for us is one of the most interesting ones since we started the festival,” Mad Cool booker Cindy Castillo told NME. “We are craving it! Also, the UK government’s decision gives us hope for the rest of the countries and festivals.”

Castillo explained how, like the rest of the world, Spain’s situation depends on the vaccination progress – which is currently quite slow – but she expects it will “move much quicker” from March or else “festivals will be hard to organise”.

“Vaccination passports can be a tool to accelerate the flow of the audience, but what we really need is the vaccination process to speed up so we can achieve normality as soon as possible,” she said. “We have already organised a plan for testing to happen in case we need to activate such a measure, but we all need festivals to happen so I’m sure we will all utilise everything possible to be able to move forward.”

No chance, is there.

Possible had they delayed until September...
