October and still nothing...

I wonder if they are just waiting to see what happens, none of the big festivals in Hungry have announced anything since the postponed events. Balton Sound, Volt and Sziget have been all quiet and nothing about 2021.

I expect we will know by Christmas.

I'll be back. News coming for all three this year.

Probably they are waiting, hope until Christmas at least too.

I think governments won't forbid festivals next Summer, too much money and jobs to lose, + treatments and vaccins are not that far now ..

BUT American bands might not be able to be in Europe, so I wonder if we're gonna have a huge % of European artists/bands in 2021. Honestly, as long as festivals happen, I'd take it :)

P.S: one of the best festival in France, Eurockéennes (in July), will give their entire line-up by the end of Novembre, mid-December. With "an XXXL line up and a huge headliner" according to the Director.. we're talking about Daftpunk, Coldplay or Queen-Adam Lambert, we'll see about that but I hope Sziget will manage to get something big, as they did in 2019 ( Foo Fighters - Ed Sheeran )

FWIW, my opinion is that we will have a vaccine early next year. There's too much money being lost and too much money to be made by the pharma industries.

The problem will be its production and roll-out. You've got to create 7 billions lots of the vaccine and then provide it to 7 billion people. Quickly.

I'm not sure festival-goers will be top of the list of recipients.

Therefore, I suspect it will be mass-testing that gets festivals back up and running. You can get tests at the moment that provide results in approx 30 mins. This will be much quicker by next August.

My solution would be to have twenty or thirty 'testing booths' around Budapest running from 9am to 9pm each day. Then, every day you go, get tested and then receive a text confirmation of a negative result which you then have to show to gain entry to the festival.

Charge everyone 500 Huf to get tested, to cover your costs.

There'll be some pain (queuing each day) but if you want to start attending festivals again I can't see many other options.

Sounds nice in theory, but Hungary's healthcare system is struggling right now, they are testing at maximum capacity for weeks now, which is around 10k-12k tests per day and the official price of the test is 19500 Huf. On top of that, sometimes it takes weeks to receive your results. (I'm talking about PCR tests, which is considered the most reliable test in Hungary.)

What if you fail the test? Having paid for tickets, flights and hotels?

If you fail the test at any point, anywhere in the world, then you need to isolate. This would be no different (unless a 'cure' is found - not likely!)

There may be some specialist 'overseas festivals' travel insurance launched in order to address this very concern but I suspect, more likely, it would be more a case of "tough luck, you gambled and lost."

I can't see any other outcome. I guess the Sziget organisers might consider refunding the ticket price of those who test positive (so as to encourage attendance) but the flight and hotel situation could only be covered by some kind of Covid travel insurance, which is currently difficult, but not impossible, to come by.

We will wait and see, i can't see mass testing at a festival like sziget. What's stopping you getting the virus from a negative test in Budapest to the festival grounds?

I am not sure I will be paying for tickets, flights and accommodation if they are doing tests before.  Imagine getting turned away from the festival while all your friends get through and you need to self-isolate. Do you get your own accommodation, fly back on different days while they are having the time off their life.

If they were testing before that would be a nightmare and someone was positive, then this would have spread everywhere on the train up and in the q waiting on getting tested.

I hope it goes ahead and they have some vaccine or better medication for the older folk and people in that shielding bracket and that we all just get on with it.

I think any band could be there and it would not take much to test them and charter them through the festival scene not unlike football players in European games.

Do we still have any ideas on dates or bands. I have kept a eye on the flights and they are still reasonable at present

Exactly my concerns. Not so bad with the UK festivals, yeah you lose out on the price of the ticket and all the magic a festival gives, but at least you can return home and quarantine in the comfort of your own home, and providing its an option, work from home for the next 2 weeks.

Change this to overseas, and your up shit creek, BIG TIME.

I travel quite a lot and even the thought of a weekend break overseas scares me, just imagine landing in a country and being randomly tested and it turns out positive? Cant imagine my boss being best please when i explain im out of work for two weeks because im self-isolating in Hungary etc.

Gutted, because the last few years i've really taken to overseas festivals for the guarantee of good weather.

So devastated by the situation .. and its happening all over agan:| nightmare

Any ideas how festivals could adapt to this in long term ? Could a huge "bubble" thing work? Reduced capatity?

This virtual concerts through screen doesn't work for me.

Once a vaccine is sourced out, its back to normal. When that happens is anyones guess.

I would be very surprised if it comes in time for 2021 festivals. Smaller festivals in September maybe, szifet I have my doubts. 100k people a day from where we are today seems a long way off.

Its going to be emotional when we get back there whenever it is.

I work in the pharma industry and believe me, that they are trying. But its not only about the money.

One thing is to develop the vaccine itself, other is to properly test it, and last one is to create it in factories and deploy it, we are talking about very time consuming process, even if the cure itself would be close.

PCR testing would be absolutely impossible to process...plus the price is too high, who would pay for it?

What would maybe work is something like antigen testing, which is quick and cheap (not as accurate though), But imagine that even if infected would be isolated and on Island there would be only noninfected visitors (utopia), imagine Bacardi Arena party and just a few infected people that didnt get tested because they are VIP or so, in a few days we are talking about higher units of thousands infected, leaving to their home in different states across the Europe.

Thats why I think that only vaccine or immersion of the majority is the only solution for festival that big to happen :(

What really surprises me is how people still put their faith into vaccines for the next summer season. Its not like you have vaccine ready and then next week everything is back to normal and the whole world got vaccinated. From what i am reading, it will take at least 6 to 12 months for the whole world to get it, distributed everywhere, once its ready to go. And we are starting to crawl towards end of this year, with no vaccine in sight. Herd immunity or some sort of medicine looks way more likely now to help in the next 12 months, than the vaccine.

Everybody isn't going to get vaccinated.

i had hope before reading this, and I have more now.. it's in French , it means " Yes, concerts and festivals CAN happen during a pandemic", and this is serious.

There's just nothing new... They said indoor shows can happen with the Covid rules : masks, distance between people, good air-conditioning, not full capacity, no standing people at the bar, etc.
