Had letters published in the melody maker and NME complaining that the Osmonds and David Cassidy were ruining music and demanding they shouldn’t be included in the album charts and those charts should be for real musicians such as Zeppelin, Sabbath , Floyd etc.

They published my address and I was inundated with hate mail from teenyboppers!  And I have to say some of them used very industrial language , even the envelopes were covered in insults. But I was a hero at school with my mates!

You're showing your age there. If only said campaign had been successful.

A couple of years ago I made a comment under a story regarding some roadworks on a local rags website. Used a pseudonym natch, but made the mistake of signing up to their site using an email address with my real name in it.

Next thing I knew I was getting accosted in the street with cries of "Well done for getting your letter printed in the local paper".

"But I've never written a letter to my local paper".

They obviously did a quick electoral role search on my name or something and had printed my comment with my real name and street name in that weeks edition

Liberty taking that is (OK. I should have read the T&Cs of the rags website I guess).

Good job I hadn't made a comment slagging off work.

Peter Gabriel once gave me the nod and "hello mate" as we both filled our cars with petrol.

He had a nicer car than me.

I once had a conversation with Keith Richards about guitar playing.

I'd spotted his nice car before I spotted him.

Not made it into any papers but I do have a story from The Brit Awards probably around 10 years ago no. I think I've told this story on here before but...

An old school friends sister won a couple of tickets to the Brits one year via a Radio 1 competition.

Her and her husband got there, and, well... It hadn't been mentioned that her husband was in a wheel chair and all sorts of embarrassment ensued from what I gathered.

Told by my friend

"In the early 70's in rural Wales i walked into the Post Office and Robert Plant was in there.

I asked if he was Robert Plant " and he replied " Sometimes "

I got him to sign a pack of cigs for me , but when i got into punk i ripped the packet up in anger !!

Ironically Mrs C in her early teenage years was a David Cassidy fan and when we moved in together his albums came with her! I refused to let her play them on my Sanyo music centre (for the youth on here that was a state of the art combined turntable, radio and cassette player) ,  I converted her to zeppelin very quickly!

Weirdly I went for a run around his house this week.

I thought I’d met David Cassidy but parents have just confirmed it was David Essex, his sons About my age played football in the local youth team.

Was it anywhere near Penallt near Monmouth? He used to frequent The Boat Inn - would have been early 80s when I last saw him in there.

Fantastic tale, thanks for sharing :)

My pleasure - it's a tale I look back on rather fondly. I have actually just dug up some of the pictures from my facebook. Please remember these are from 2011 which is why I look nothing like I do now

I've just remembered one other part of the story... when we were talking to Olly, Caroline Flack turned around and said "Oh my god are you Welsh!? Let's have a picture". So I'm claiming, on a technicality, that she's asked us for a picture :D

Driving through Leeds once years ago i was following a nice dark blue Rolls Royce and as we approached a roundabout i kept thinking

"Dont run into the back of it "

Anyway it stopped suddenly and Santa in  a lovely suit  got out of the car .  Then i realised Ken Bates was walking towards me.

I wound the window down and he asked for directions to Elland Road, informing me he had had a lovely lunch at a nice hotel just off the A1 and wanted to know the best way to get to the ground.

The woman in the car must have been 30 years younger than him .

As he was stood talking to me he got plenty of car horns and insults from car windows !!!!

Back in the late 70’s I was a student and earned beer money as a ‘humper’ for gigs at Leicester De Montfort Hall (Humper = ‘humping PA and lighting and stage gear from trucks to stage and assisting roadies in build and take down.  Also occasionally involved lighting or ‘security’ support during the gig.) saw loads of acts close up - ones I immediately think of were having a brew and a natter with Phil Lynot from Thin Lizzy, who had bummed a fag off me. Was on spotlight duty ‘super troupers’ for Jackson 5 and I had to follow Michael around the stage. Carried Joe Strummers wardrobe case into his dressing room and he said thanks. Said hello to Elvis Costello as he arrived for sound check. He responded but was a miserable fucker on the day. Still one of my biggest heroes tho 😊. Loads more, but won’t bore you. Happy days.

I met Phil in about 1982 in Portsmouth. He was very very pissed, and didn't come thru on his promise to put me on the guest list, the bastard.
