Assuming that 100% of ticketholders would go ahead with their planning and would travel to Barcelona.

Assuming that 2021 budget is even closer to previous years (tip: look at the line up)

Assuming that their only downsize on income is the ppl rejected at the entrance and (some of the) sponsors will not back out if the situation is somewhat similar to now.

I insist: I'm the first one with his mind already at the Forum for next year but stating that, with the current numbers, Primavera would lose just 15k € is plain and simple delusional.

That's a straw man argument. I didn't write that Primavera would lose €15k in total because of Covid.

I wrote that based on current numbers they would 'lose' less than €15k in Covid-refunds-on-the-doors and that fewer than 70 people out of 65,000 are likely to turn up on the first day 'infected' and be turned away.

"Dogs are very good at detecting coronavirus. We come close to 100% sensitivity.”

The dogs’ efficiency has not yet been proven in comparative scientific studies so passengers who volunteer to be tested and are suspected as carrying the virus are instructed to also take a swab to confirm the result. In the canine test, a passenger swipes their neck with a gauze, places it in a can which is then handed over to another room for a dog to sniff and to deliver an immediate result.

Looks promising for speeding up testing. Primavera Hound 2021?

Yeah, this seems like a totally easy way for large events to get going again. If they're already in place to do drug/explosive detection at sporting events then this isn't much different. Really exciting step forward.

bought tickets a while ago but haven't actually booked acommodation/flights yet due to everything going on. Do you think it's best to get accommodation sorted ASAP?

I'd recommend it. You could get accommodation which you only need to pay on arrival and can be cancelled for free. That way you have secured a place to stay without any risk. Have seen prices go up and availability go down.

Ok cool, going to get on it this week. What sort of areas are recommended?

I think they specialise. The same dog can't detect explosives, drugs, cancer.

Depends...if you're gonna be at the festival most of the time and want a short commute El Poblenou will do the trick. And I believe lot's of people stay in the Barri Gotic area. Taxis will be a nightmare so check out if your accommodation is near night buses/trams or near the Primavera shuttle bus stop if you're not staying near the site.

Haven’t been here since 2020 was cancelled. To save me reading this entire forum would anyone kindly sum up the general consensus regarding the chance of 2021 actually going ahead?

As much as I WANT to be positive ....I really can't see it happening now :( I see gigs and tours that were postponed to the spring now being cancelled. I just don't see huge festivals going ahead.

Actually, I'm seeing gigs that were postponed to the autumn now getting postponed to next April/May. But I consider that as hopeful as the original postponements.

Indeed. But when we have the UK government saying they fully expect restrictions to be in place now for another 6 months its hard to see much going ahead :( I have tickets for a few gigs in Feb - April ..... I doubt any will happen.

God I miss seeing bands :(

I see this as a positive that they're so pessimistic.

A good rule of thumb is that the exact opposite of what the UK government says usually comes to pass.

Rapid testing is here a lot quicker than I thought it'd be, to be honest, with another news story about it today. If these sorts of things are reliable and plentiful, this will be the thing that enables festivals to go ahead if a vaccine isn't out in time. They're coming to developing countries imminently, which is a great sign that we'll be able to use them come June.

From the Guardian:

Quote

Tests for Covid-19 that show on-the-spot results in 15 to 30 minutes are about to be rolled out across the world, potentially saving many thousands of lives and slowing the pandemic in both poor and rich countries.

In a triumph for a global initiative to get vital drugs and vaccines to fight the virus, 120m rapid antigen tests from two companies will be supplied to low- and middle-income countries for $5 (£3.90) each or even less.

The tests, which look like a pregnancy test, with two blue lines displayed for positive, are read by a health worker. One test has received emergency approval from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the other is expected to get it shortly.

The quick and easy but high-quality tests will allow mass screening of health workers, who are dying in disproportionate numbers in low income countries.

Wealthy countries that have signed up to the Access to Covid tools initiative (ACT accelerator), as the UK has, will also be able to order the tests. The initiative was launched in March by the WHO, the European commission, the Gates Foundation and the French government.

In return for a volume guarantee from the Gates Foundation, the companies are making 20% of their production available to low- and middle-income countries and 80% to the rest. Germany has already ordered 20m tests and France and Switzerland are following suit.

The UK government is keen to get rapid virus tests, which were central to the “moonshot” proposals leaked recently, but it is not clear if they intend to buy these tests. It has invested in British-made saliva tests as well as rapid antigen tests, both of which take about 90 minutes. Saliva tests are being trialled in Salford and Southampton, while DnaNudge, which uses a swab read by a Nudgebox, is in use in some NHS hospitals.

But the WHO-approved rapid antigen tests are faster and easier, as well as cheaper, and could be used for screening in schools, universities and workplaces. Countries that can afford it could screen more generally. While the tests will not pick up all cases, they could allow many infectious people to be identified before they have symptoms and go into quarantine.

One of the tests, from the South Korean company SD BioSensor, has just been given emergency approval by the WHO, while the other, from the US company Abbott, is expected to get it shortly for a test it manufactures in South Korea.

Catharina Boehme, CEO of the non-profit Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (Find), a key player in the initiative, said they had put in bulk orders for the tests quickly so that low- and middle-income countries would not lose out in the global scramble for rapid tests, as they did when the PCR tests came out. “We see the pressure of supply building rapidly. That’s why we need this volume guarantee. We needed to secure volumes for low- and middle-income countries, before all the other countries place their orders and the poor populations again lose out.

“For us the message is about unprecedented collaboration. We are really able to show what can be achieved when the world and leading global health partners come together with a shared priority.”

Mogwai today cancelled their Feb dates, no rescheduling. When you see stuff being cancelled 5-6 months in advance, you can’t help but lose just a little more optimism.

Now to Mogwai dates - 4.5 months

From Mogwai dates to Primavera - 3.5 months

Almost twice as far away in time!

Am increasingly convinced a combination of cheap & quick-result mass testing, the controlled nature of who can enter, the outdoors aspect, favourable weather, and a reasonable level of vaccine implementation by June will allow the event to go ahead. Plenty of US bands to cancel admittedly amid some travel restrictions/difficulties/fear of touring losses but event to still be full of enthusiastic Europeans gagging for festival good times by then.

Would say not plenty, but most of them. They had enthusiasm couple of months ago, now it seems like they totally lost it.

Mogwai is the best example, thou they are European.

Eventually i think they will arrive to a point in which they will have to make this environment alive again, i really really understand the fact that we are in a global pandemic but damn, they can't just forget people that work in this sector, in italy this summer discos were re opened again, why discos and not small concerts venues? So i hope money and common sense will win and we will have our live concerts again, if they wait too much, when all this will be over, we won't have live shows because everything in that sector will be already failed
