While it's not technically impossible, they do have 2 stadium shows just down the road a week or two before, for the main rival promoter. More (most?) likely, they've got something booked in another country on Glastonbury weekend.

It’s not so much about exposure - as someone like the Stones or Adele doesn’t need it - but the act has to see it as an event worth crossing off the list. Would Guns? Doubt it. Slash seemed to love it when he played about a decade (!) ago? Is he still in G&R? Might spread the word about it to a now more sensible Axl. Matt42
Looking at their dates it is strange that they have a gig on glasto Wednesday and a gig the Wednesday afterwards. One to keep the eye on but I don’t see it as overwhelmingly likely. Edited August 6, 2020 by Matt42

No. Another festival moved to sync with Werchter I believe. RW takes place in July still. The gap in their dates does put them in as a compelling replacement possibility - more so than RHCP - but I don’t think you’d find anyone convinced it’ll happen regardless. I guess it would make sense that they would give themselves enough time to go to Europe and back. Maybe they positioned themselves as available just in case glasto ask them? Then again I feel like if GNR did directly approach Glasto, glasto would probs say yes. You’d have to be mad to turn down someone like GNR. Shit live or not that’s a massive headliner on your doorstep.
jparx
No chance GnR are configuring their tour plans around the possibility of being approached by Glastonbury. If they ever headline, it’ll be due to a strong pitch from the festival. And that’s where it falls apart for me - can’t see Emily being that fussed by them to give them the hard sell. Hugh Jass
Just noticed it’s Glasgow - break over GF weekend - Germany. I’d say it’s far more likely they have an unannounced show somewhere in Europe than Glastonbury.

They'd be a good booking. I'd be surprised if the festival haven't taken a punt at booking the reformed line up.

I agree they’d be a good booking, I just think knowing how much the fee is would either put them off entirely, or they’d get to the negotiating table and things would fall apart very quickly. Very much hope I’m wrong though. I think they could put on a legendary show.

They would be wonderful early evening in the park 😍

I managed to walk into the front during the first song.
CaledonianGonzo
They didnt open it - they came on after Turtle Island. It was good. Main memory is that it was *loud*

HAIM feels a near-lock top 3/sub now though. They played the O2 Arena on the last album. They’re definitely on the small side but not too different from The National. Maybe Other sub is more realistic though. Their 2014 set was good and as CalGon says it was indeed surprisingly loud, but the crowd was fairly sparse. I suppose they’re a much bigger deal these days. Remember being very skeptical of them getting that slot initially but it just sounded so damn good, and the fact that I was at the height of my fandom of them at the time definitely helped. Good to see them on the scene and really hope Glastonbury gets them booked again. Could see them subbing the Pyramid, although not sure how well they’d be received to a crowd of people waiting for Macca (who I assume they’d be on before). CaledonianGonzo
No sparser than average for a band that early in the day on the Pymild. The sun came out at one point, which was nice on a pretty bleak morning.

Do they tend to play big slots like that at other festivals? I was thinking more a sunset slot on the other stage or JP sub / headline. I think they could be put in various different slots. I don’t think they are that competitive of a booking so I can’t see them demanding a gigantic slot. Also if Vampire Weekend got a pretty thin crowd subbing the pyramid I can’t imagine how quiet the War on Drugs would be?
