Yes sadly Nuala's problems have been going on for years. In the last 2 years we've paid £17-18k for treatment for her. Only £14k of it covered by insurance and her insurance doesn't renew until December and so far this month we've had to pay out £280 in vets and medication bills for her. As of next week we'll be paying £35 a week for physio for her as well. Helps me appreciate the NHS at least. If she needs the amputation of her tail god knows what that will cost. Obviously we pay it all and more if needed because we love them so much though and yep cuddles with the dogs are wonderful although the weather at the moment means it's not something that happens too much. Having to content myself with massaging her backend to help her iliopsoas injuries.

As a dog owner I can truly appreciate how you'd happily max out every credit card, pull in every favour etc just to get them well again. To me my dogs are as equal (or greater than) comfort to me than my human family. The great thing is that I truly believe that they reciprocate and they somehow know how much you're doing for them.

My mother has a 8 month old Show Cocker who has just had a double hip replacement due to a weakness in genetics. After the operation (around £11k), Max is finally allowed out of his cage after 4 months inside, ironic it's on our own Freedom Day.

Hope it all works out for you and that the insurance companies are kind. It's great to hear of someone looking after their dogs with such kindness!

Last year we saw 1 vet behaviourist, 1 neurologist and 4 orthopaedic specialists to get some kind of diagnosis for. Nuala is and always will be a special case. She's not like any other dog we know even the vet behaviourist had to admit that she is not a normal dog. All the more precious for not being a normal dog. Ferris our other dog is much more normal so we know what she's meant to be like 😄

Absolutely, and often that's what makes them so special to us!

@gigpushersorry to hear your having a rubbish time!!! I dont know much about dogs but ours use to love to play with and lick giant ice cubes in the summer!!!
For your sister in law i would reccomend the body shop shea butter products or almond and honey products and any of the lipbalms they are very good for the skin to counteract any side effects of any treatments!! And they smell lovely but not to strong!!! They also have a bit of a pampering treat about them!!

Thanks for the suggestions. Have just hosed down Ferris the healthy one because he's just being an idiot and not doing the things he needs to do to keep cooler. Nuala is at least a little calmer.  Will look on the Body Shop website although at this stage we are still hopeful that the surgery may be all that is required if the cancer is confined to that one kidney. If everyone could keep their fingers crossed for her tomorrow. My niece and nephew are only 13 and 10 so can't bare to think of anything other than a positive outcome for them at the moment.

Just irrational worrying … mostly over covid … should be happy today but I’m completely the opposite

I don't think your alone feeling that mate, I guess the only thing you can do is focus on what you are comfortable with and keep in mind you are fully vaccinated so have a really good shot if you do ever pick up the virus. If you need to talk I'm here.

I have no idea if prayers work or not. Let's face it, nobody alive does (human, that is). However, I do 'feel' that there's 'something' out there. So I will ask that 'something' for a favour. That's the best I can do, other than to also wish you and your family all the best. I will ask for your sister in law to 'pull through'. I suspect that last bit is universally felt on this site.

Sorry to hear that crazy. Happy to hear that you've got that gig to go to though. I mean, fuck me, that's going to be a belter. Hope you have the next day off at work. I was once invited to the Scissor Sisters after show party, but declined because of work commitments.

Aaaaghhh!

Yeah Thursday is very fortunately my day off … hence my search for a driver which I now think I’ve sorted 🙂 gotta trust these vaccines to do a job or I’m gonna end up a nervous wreck

I've had 'The Fear' over covid a few times. When it first hit China and then spread across the world I went into automatic cacking my pants mode. I wrote to all my brothers (4 No.) and told them that it was my considered opinion that this was going to wipe me out. I then went on to tell them to look after my wife, and that I loved them all etc.

I've had other frightening moments too.

However, how long does one hold out in a Shit Storm?

Starting to get a little worried. It’s “freedom day” yet my gut is telling me another lockdown is coming.

What was it that changed me? America seems to be getting hit hard by the delta variant. 95% of cases in the hospital are unvaccinated, which proves the vaccines work, but I think there’s a similar issue going on that having an unvaccinated population stops us from progressing any further…

paging @Ozanne and @Toilet Duck … maybe @Barry Fish too!

I don't want to turn this into the next version of a COVID thread but it's understandable you'd be worried about it but I don't think there's much chance we'll go back into another lockdown because the vaccines work so well. That doesn't mean some form of restrictions won't come back, I can see that happening and they probably should in some form.

I know it's easier said than done but maybe try to take yourself away from all the coverage of the pandemic and enjoy some of the aspects of life you feel comfortable to enjoy that you've missed. At least then is certain things get shut again you've enjoyed a bit of life in the meantime.
