one of the reasons they were reluctant to go into full lockdown in UK in early/mid March maybe...? Behavioural science and all that.

Yeah, there are behavioural scientists on SAGE (and on our version of it) and the timing of lockdown certainly incorporated input on that front. Again, that's a hard balance, evidence from elsewhere suggests going early reduces deaths, the big question is whether it leads to bigger second waves! (or do you go early again and hope to repeat til a vaccine, treatment or more useful test comes along...)

I don’t think that was the case in the end as that type of thing ‘doesn’t exist’.

Interesting! The behavioural change subgroup of our version of SAGE specifically mentioned it and identified a minority (estimated at about 15%) who would have difficulty accepting the restrictions and the timelines for them and recommended messaging specifically targeting them (and this has been the approach used...how well it's working is another matter!). Pretty early on they were talking about behavioural change resilience and the support measures they could put in place to ensure this. Changes in risk perception and behavioural fatigue are discussed at most of their meetings (agendas and minutes are publicly available). But, I'm no behavioural scientist!

NE restrictions to be announced by Matt Hancock at 11:30

Probably worth repeating - how are they getting stricter measures than the North West? Liverpool/Wirral are worse than some of those North East areas, and we know the state of the Manchester area at the moment. Baffling decision making

From tomorrow in the North East:

- No socialising outside households

- Hospitality table service only and must close between 10pm-5am

It astounded me that this hasn't been the case the whole time. Too European maybe, and will put off the Brexit types same as masks in pubs when not at your table (who are more likely to think it's a hoax and go out to spend)? I just assumed that is what the rules would be

I’m pretty sure it was already the case (even if widely ignored) but either way Hancock specifically mentioned it in his statement.

I have been to quite a few round here in the past few weeks (just to sit outside) and only one offered table service only and insisted on it. If it was the case everywhere it would've meant multiple less trips indoors for many people, albeit only for a brief couple of minutes each time. It seems crowding round a bar is very much part of British culture....

As someone in the North West, I am also baffled.
