Yes. And the refusal to admit that furlough needed to be extended and general pushback on the firebreak seems to be the main reason we didn't act fast enough the second time when there was much less of an excuse than first time around.

also...eat out to help out...just helped spread the virus (which is maybe what he wanted..living with the virus etc).

In other news: Corbyn sacking effect crystallising in the polls. Silly old Starmer.

Starmer lost nothing by pissing off the Corbyn fan club. They wouldn't have voted for Starmer anyway as he doesn't meet their purity test.

So off they'll go polishing their halos, happy in the knowledge that they're not responsible for a tory govt, oh no. ;)

Better news of the day, we get an extra bank holiday in 2022 for the Queens Platinum Jubilee! Glad they've announced it now rather than a shorter time like for the VE day one (not that it mattered in the end :P)

The timing of this announcement feels like a distraction from being the first European country to 50,000 deaths/the in-fighting rumours.

Bit optimistic to declare this two years out, at her age, during the second wave.....

other councils might be in trouble cos of covid, but Croydon has been a fuck-up of its own making - well covered over many months by Private Eye.

Yeah, lots of reasons........A lot have been taken in and tried to invest in property to secure an income with disastrous results. The main reason though is historic in that they only get last minute short term funding settlements making it virtually impossible to plan more than a year or two in advance. They therefore live year to year and have tried to offset this a bit with the property investments to secure a longer term income stream....with predictable results. They can't borrow, unlike central government, and have to balance budgets on a yearly basis - not a recipe for prudent fiscal planning policy.

The queen planning large scale events in early June is surely a good sign for late June ?

I think one of the main reasons is the serial fuck-up they installed as chief exec. ;)

Yes, undoubtedly. Probably a good example where private sector expertise is not always conducive to public sector areas of responsibility.

But the point about council finances above is still valid.

It is absolutely embarrassing how much you shoe-horn the SNP/ scottish independence into basically every political comment you make on here. No one is in any doubt what your views are... we get it.

Do you?

I was making the point that Scots voting SNP makes it less likely that people in England will vote Labour - because whatever the truth of things, there's the impression that the SNP within UK govt will try to act against the UK's best interests.

What's going on within Scotland is just as much a part of Labour's success - or failure (so the tory's success) - as what Corbyn fans might do.

Yeah I get it. My point is that barely a day goes by on here without you shoe-horning the SNP into a discussion. It's an utterly bizarre obsession.
