Good point about the coverage actually. Would much prefer to watch in English that Swedish, hopefully BBC or Sky will be doing a YouTube live stream.

Most of the US networks should have streams that aren't geo-blocked. I was watching ABC through twitter in 2016

Is it a likely scenario that the lockdown in England will be extended and be in force over Christmas and New year?

if it goes over that period, they'll be relaxed rules for xmas day and perhaps a bit more.

There wouldn't be much point in having rules for xmas day anyway. Too many people will ignore them.

Exactly, the government’s choice is to relax it over Christmas Day (rule of 6 with children not counting would be a good compromise) and probably have people comply with the compromise, or keep lockdown and have everyone just do what they like.

It differs from year to year and especially this year with the increase of mail in ballots which will slow things down, so we might not know for days or even weeks, but hopefully it’ll be such a landslide in Bidens favour that it can be called in the early hours of the morning.

thanks.

Guardian reporting Boris's rapid tests not approval for use without heath professional interpretation or for general screening

which still makes them useful.

They're being trialed in some fixed locations such as schools. Currently, anyone testing positive with the fast test then has a normal PCR test as confirmation.

It should be picking up asymptomatic cases, and getting people isolated sooner than they'd otherwise be isolated.

Spaffer hasn't promised them as a general test for everyone, yet.

Those type of tests will essentially be what we use before we go to Glastonbury next year I would think.

Forget the 'normal' worlds changed forever.

Sad but true 🙃 I understand the need for distancing because no one wants to see Lombardy-esque scenes in our hospitals, but it just makes life so shit that I don’t see any point carrying on. I have no enjoyment of the little things in life anymore. I’m just a big bag of emptiness.

Expert opinion suggests these  lateral flow tests only work well when people carry high virus loads and are symptomatic. With lower virus loading, as is often typical of asymptomatic infection, they are less reliable.

Hope you’re feeling ok mate - just acknowledge and accept that you are having ‘one of those days’ by feeling like this. Honestly, we all have them (whether we admit this publicly or not) and they aren’t very nice. But try your best to do what you can to cheer yourself up, stick on your favourite film or album etc and avoid the news/this thread for a couple of days if you can.
Things will obviously get better in the not so distant future, try and take comfort in the fact that these restrictions are having a positive impact and we are all contributing to saving peoples lives by doing so. That really helped me when I was struggling first time around.
It is tough, but there is light at the end of this tunnel and there will be a vaccine soon - 3 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Stay strong!

If you ever want a chat mate. Msg me your number and we can chew the fat over it all.

We will all have our low moments in the coming months and it's important we all stick together.

My door is always open for a chat.

I also know that some of the members on here do an occasional zoom meetup and although i've not attended I know they'd be happy to have you along.

Good points mate!

Another thing to bear in mind is that we have done this before so we can do it again! We’ve all shown we can get through a longer and tougher lockdown. We can do this. Try to focus on some positive aspects or things you find enjoyable. For me it’s video games!

Great points both, and very helpful thanks! I can absolutely get through the next month of lockdown, got plenty indoor stuff planned to get me through it. My worry is the long term, what if this is just life now? What if the vaccine doesn’t work? What if I’m never allowed to see my parents and my family again? I seriously hope there will be a vaccine in the next few months, but if it only works on a portion of people then maybe these restrictions are just going to be how life works going forward. And if that’s the case, then I think I’d rather end it now than live such a miserable existence :(

Hospitals seem to be taking things a lot more seriously compared to my last appointment. Last time I came was during the original lockdown and other than hand sanitiser stations and a quick questionnaire on arrival there weren’t many restrictions in place.

Now there’s checkpoints you need to be escorted through. Full hand washing before sanitising and a more rigorous set of questions before they allow you anywhere near where you need to be.

My wife is really struggling with staffing now on the Covid wards at her hospital more than anything - so many of them are needing to self-isolate, and then there are those who are vulnerable/living with those who are vulnerable or are pregnant who can’t work on the Covid wards.
She’s having a right tough time with it, she having to take extra weekends as there is literally nobody else. It’s such a mess and there is no real answer to how it can be tackled other than to hope the peak is soon.
I just feel useless and wish there was something I could do to help! 😔
