Cheaper to prevent pandemics than 'cure' them

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-54721687

Preventing pandemics could be more than 100 times cheaper than tackling their deadly effects, a report says.

It calls on people to stop encroaching on wild land and eat less meat - to cut contact with animals carrying viruses or bacteria that could infect humans.

The report says governments must work together to avoid future pandemics, and must swiftly contain outbreaks.

It warns that, without a co-ordinated global plan, more will die from future pandemics more dangerous than Covid-19.

No he didn’t. He won because the north felt ignored over their Brexit vote and wanted it done, whilst the south was very afraid of a far left PM that would strip away at their hard earned assets. I voted for Labour because I was very pro second referendum but I completely get why Boris won a thumping majority.

Us on here are having an open discussion about politics, and by even bothering to engage in such discussions, we are instantly more involved and invested in politics than a lot of the public who vote.
I’m gauging my options from the people I have on social media who I went to school with many years ago (I only still have them as ‘friends’ for a laugh) who were voting because they didn’t like Corbyn and how he conducted himself. Let’s be frank, he is fairly dull in comparison to Johnson. And Boris does come across as charming and likeable to the person on the street, who doesn’t take a real interest in politics. He’s the funny guy swinging holding the Union Jack flags who rugby tackled that child, and fouled somebody in he charity football game.
Whilst you are correct that some did vote for the political reasons you mention above, a LOT of the voting public are very naive. You only have to listen to news reports when they go to places like Darlington as to why they didn’t vote for Labour/Corbyn. A lot of them sadly haven’t got a clue.

Exactly. People are afraid that the big bad lefties will

come and take away their nice things.

isn't that exactly what turning a hard capitalist country into a socialist one would do? (the type the hard left Corbyn worshippers want I mean). Not take everything away, but chip away at their money with taxes etc a lot more aggressively than before?

One friend of mine was genuinely terrified of McDonnell as chancellor because his family own multiple homes and McDonnell wanted to go after home ownership. They were going to get the first plane out the country if Corbyn won.

It seems I'm a hard left Corbynite which I'm not ashamed of but surely any future Labour policy will include taxing the rich more aggressively?

A friend of my sister has been invited to a “zoom wedding” next month and her husband is a virtual usher tasked with ushering people into virtual breakout rooms to speak to each other.

I think a little bit of me just died inside when my sister told me that.

Good grief....that's the online equivalent of nervously scanning the table plan to find your sharing with 4 strangers and an ex-partner you publicly cheated on.

I have a Zoom wedding on Saturday but it's just a case of going on Zoom to watch the ceremony then that's it. No ushering or breakout rooms thankfully.

For me this was summed up the day after the 2019 GE, when Sky News interviewed a couple from a newly won Tory seat in the North. The couple said they voted Tory for change, they wanted to see some change so voted for the party that’s been in power for a decade. The Tories have managed to convince people that all the ills of the 2010s weren’t their fault but because of others. It’s incredible how they’ve done and how some buy it.

That's pretty much what happens to me & Mrs Q at weddings. We'll talk to people, so we get put on a table with all the dull people that no-one knows. We get to sit there having really boring conversations about what people do for a living and where their kids go to school (full disclosure: we don't care) while we can see / hear our actual friends having a blast on the group tables.

Fuck weddings.

How many dull tables do you have to be placed on before you start to wonder if you're also dull...
