When will this shit end?

There will obviously be a spike of Covid infections in the Winter, as there is for other diseases, but with all adults double jabbed and boosters offered to the vulnerable, why on earth would we need extra measures than usual? The only long term changes we need from this is to move away from presenteeism and for it to be more acceptable to WFH if you have cold/flu, and maybe encourage masks on public transport if you have symptoms. The kind of stuff we probably should have been doing to help combat spread of flu/colds in the first place.

Unless there's a new variant (and even then, massively depends on the characteristics of it) we definitely shouldn't be slipping back to social distancing in the Winter.

What's the point of the 15 minutes bit? Either you're in an enclosed space breathing or not surely?

If you imagine every time someone with the virus breathes out, that outbreath carries a certain amount of virus. The more time they’re doing it, the more virus builds up in any shared space.

Then the longer you’re in that space, the more of that air you’re breathing in, so the greater the viral load you’re exposed to.

I guess the 15 minute recommendation has some science behind it as a sort of threshold.

Frankly though 30 seconds on a crowded tube carriage is probably more than enough! 😳

Sounds like some of the zero covid nutters trying to get some of their ideas into the mainstream

Hancock says MPs should return to sitting in chamber without social distancing from September

Hancock tells MPs that, although they will be voting tonight to extend the arrangements for virtual participation in Commons debates until 22 July, after the summer recess the Commons will return to normal. He says he can’t wait to have MPs back in the chamber “cheek by jowl”.

What they haven't addressed re compulsory vaccination of care workers as far as I can see, is domiciliary care workers. A massive segment of the sector and as great a risk to their clients. They just referred to workers in care homes for the elderly. Quite an omission.

Hopefully we are only a week or so away from cases dropping across the UK if Scotland is anything to go by…

That feels quite promising as it’s despite Glasgow dropping a level on June 5 which allowed pubs to serve booze again.

9k cases today, up 20% on last week after a full week of c. 7.6k

Absolutely no sign of the 60% exponential death loop we were promised Monday night.

Cancelling next weeks freedom day looks like a BIG mistake
