I used to hate getting the Tube when I lived in London, my heart went out to people who still had to get it when the virus was kicking off and they were still squashed like sardines while knowing they were at high risk of catching it.

In Manchester they had these big cafe things where you pay per hour for infinite cake/coffee but the idea is you can use it as a work space and socialise at the same time. I feel such a yokel saying this in case it's well known in cities these days! What are these places called?! Think these will see a possible big expansion going forward with so many more people working from home, but wanting some human connections once or twice a week with others (though not an option for telesales or confidential data), unless maybe they had spill out private rooms you could use.

Your talk of the prospect of having to get up earlier has made me realise I've had to get up and start work earlier while working at home than I used to before the pandemic as nearly all my clients have wanted moving appointments during the pandemic! I've ended up working more hours, starting earlier and finishing later than ever before, and I haven't taken any holiday days off, so it's been quite a knackering pandemic for me, definitely need a break (and a hernia operation!) before returning properly to the outside world.

I've said before I would like to WFH as much as possible as my 3hr+ car commute is a nightmare and really not looking forward to going back to that tbh

No idea what will happen at our place but don't want to ask until subject is brought up

I'm sensing the WFH vs Office is about to be the next big argument at our College once WFH is no longer an instruction from the goverment.  At the moment I'm the only one in our team going in and that's only one day a week at that.

Yes MS teams is handy but it doesn't solve everything and some people seem to be quite difficult to get hold of these days who I work with!

Our manager has said she's happy for us to do both, but need to work out rota as to who's in the office when etc.

She really needs a good night out that one

Sad thing is you know she's probably spent about a week constructing that thread of Tweets and probably deliberatly posted it when she did you gain maximum exposure.

We still have thousands of middle managers wanting to justify their existence.  You know the ones who only purpose in life is to watch bums on seats.

From what I am seeing it is mostly this type saying people need to come back.

The companies wise enough to sack these middle managers and move forward on a trust relationship with their employees are the ones who will succeed.

Thats what made me go freelance and im feeling very vindicated after this last year. The place I worked at the longest don't trust people to work from home enough (or are worried people might get a taste for it) that they have "encouraged" people to go in for the entire pandemic. I'd probably have got myself fired if I was there still. They're a digital marketing agency so could be remote with no issues.

While I'm now working for a number of businesses doing the same thing I was at that place, all of whom have zero problem with me being remote (some of them are fully remote themselves even in normal times), as long as the work get done, which it obviously does, above and beyond most of the time.

The tide is turning in theory, but I realise the wider economy couldn't take people doing this on a wide scale, same as working from home as an employee, so I know I need to make the most of it because there will be financial disincentives and an active campaign against this lifestyle soon. I'll do my bit again one day 😂

Thanks- I think I first found out about them when I went to meet someone about sorting out a website for me, and hadn’t heard of such a concept and still have no idea if it’s well known or not!

I don't think we should be doing mass gatherings at the moment.  I get you may not agree.

Strange how the London police were happy to wait until Kate Middleton left first. Quick to protect their own once she's left.

I wonder if Kate will get as much grief as Meghan has recently got for doing something which was both banned, illegal and declared unsafe.

I think we both know she won't 😜

I feel male police officers (the type who let the accused off a few weeks ago on an indecent assault charge for being "one of the boys") should keep their hands of scared women out on a peaceful protest. Especially since the police legally can decide for themselves what people can or can't do.

We all know why they are arresting the women. Keeping them in their place.

No it doesn't...

If people are outside and distanced then it would be safe.

Crowded together like that is not safe.  Chris Whitty was saying this when talking about people crowding  outside coffee shops etc.

There was a report saying there was no cases linked to the BLM protests but that was some what a stupid suggestion.  You can never tell where you get infected and we all know this.

We all know why the police moved in on this particular peacefully gathering. Why defend them?
