When will this shit end?

It's not even worth discussing, the vast majority of runners and exercisers are conscientious, and outdoor transmission is low. "Should runners wear masks?" is simply a dogwhistle posed by Good Morning Britain to get this shared and discussed on socials and get people angry.

Just ignore it, you should know a full year into this how the media works in terms of getting people riled up now now. Move on.

That's extremely fair comment, guess it just annoys me how unnecessarily inefficient the process is.

At other airports, they have a lot more staff and they do some of the checks at the baggage control, like a scan of your Passenger Control Form, so that there are no bottlenecks at the Border Control. There's no 6 hour queues at Madrid, Amsterdam or Paris - and some of these carry more traffic.

Why have more staff in an airport branch of Burger King than manning our borders?

I think in part because actually the airports aren't that busy, and the staff they have are sufficient for 99% of the time, just occasionally weird circumstances (like loads of people not having the testing kits, or delays and multiple flights landing together) mean larger queues. You'd be having to take people off furlough and have them travel in to work just to cover the occasionally busy shift.

I still can't get my head around how bonkers this is. Why are those exercising outside being targeted? Aren't you more at risk of serious issues with COVID if you aren't fit and well?

Honestly this makes my blood boil. Does anyone on here think those running outside should wear masks?

I had to stop listening when she said you could feel their breath coming and you can feel yourself breathing their breath in.

This lady is a lunatic.

Heathrow is a nightmare every day now, it's not a one off.

And the problem is not lack of staff. There are a tonne of staff all through the airport.

It's lack of border guards. There are often just 2 working a shift.

We had this back in the first lockdown and the emerging consensus was just if someone is running or cycling just make more space between you and them than you would a walker (they'll pass you quicker so it ain't difficult). I'd do that even not in a pandemic - not sure why that expert decides they need to get so close to runner that they can breathe in their breath! I don't even understand the logistics!

I think argument is when runner is running in a busy area with lots of people around....where I run some areas are really busy now with fuckers out doing their exercise with a coffee thing. I just cough a few times and a clear path opens up infront of me.

Haven't washed my two masks since I bought them in June - still alive

I’ve got a large selection of fabric ones. Always have one in the back pocket of what ever pair of trousers or jeans that I’m wearing. When my leg wear goes in the wash, the mask gets washed too and I know where they will be.

What constitutes a nightmare though? I don't think having to queue for an hour or so is bad, in global pandemic. I'd agree the 6 hours queues mentioned in that article aren't acceptable but that's more from a customer service perspective than anything else.

The thing to bear in mind is that you don't really want border guards sat around doing nothing. And the fact that we're not seeing the queues get longer and longer and longer with people camped out for days, means that we are eventually clearing people through before the next lot of people arrive.

If in a given day there are only so many people arriving and it only needs two border guards to clear them all within that day, then you don't really need more. You could have 10 border guards but then they'd clear a plan load of people in five minutes and then sit around doing nothing for an hour waiting for the next plane load.

I'm stunned. Probably better offer finding a guy in his bedroom on YouTube and see what they think.

I did one better than that, I actually went to the original data and worked it out for myself, turned out he was likely correct, that doesn't mean you should accept everything at face value without question, especially if it seems like there are gaps in the data. Anyone can be spoon fed "facts" and opinions, there are no stupid questions.

Is Spain doing any better than us ?  Genuine question...

It seems bonkers to me to wear masks outdoors - but then again maybe I am bonkers for not wearing one...

I don't know anything anymore... 🙂

After reading about masks becoming ineffective when wet, and the studies about air conditioning spreading the virus it does make me wonder if it's a good idea in Spain despite the more outdoors culture - sweating into your mask then going into an air conditioned building doesn't sound right to me

While that's fair there are people running where that is not possible. If someone is legging it round a park then that makes total sense, but if they're running to the park, on a footpath that's only 1.5m wide, and on one side of the road only - I can see the argument for wearing a mask.

I think there are so many different scientific approaches alone to masks and their use and they differ from country to country.

here wearing normal masks is not allowed anymore, the FFP2 masks are mandatory.

there has been a discussion wearing them also outside, at least for the busy places, but until now only inside is mandatory.

Come on then you lot, something a bit more positive to think about - What 5 things are you most looking forward to, when we can?

For me it's;

1. Hugging friends and family without feeling self-conscious and making risk assessments about safety and distancing - stress-free socialising.
2. A packed Amex (I'm a Brighton season ticket holder) in full voice.
3. The feeling of spontaneity re: freedom of movement returning - fancy pub tonight? Or a movie? Without having to think through a load of logistics.
4. A Summer music festival/live gig - might have to wait a while, but will be fantastic and a real moment of "we're back" for me.
5. Not endlessly consuming news articles/data relating to the Coronavirus situation, and whether it's improving/getting worse etc.

I've probably missed some really obvious ones, but how about for you?

Let's try not to get into a debate here, plenty of other times and places for that - I recognise people have different views as to when we will be able to safely do each of these things, I'm simply asking which things you are most looking forward to being able to experience again, whether in 2 months or 2 years' time.

🙂

There are a lot of things wrong with Donald Trump but a 74 year old man being “quietly” vaccinated is not one of them

Speaks volumes that you call Sturgeon 'authoritarian' but jump to Trump's defense.

I’m no defender of Trump. There are many hundreds of things you can criticise him for during his time in office. A 74 year old man being vaccinated is not one of them.
