My partners mum was laid up for a week after the second dose of Pfizer.

I've had other friends who have felt ok after both first jabs, bit have had colleagues who have been unable to work for a few days afterwards.

Do we ask people to report any ill effects following the jabs?

We certainly do!

https://coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

They have released reports already detailing the reported issues, it makes for interesting reading. (it should be said that most of them won't have anything to do with the vaccine, they report all issues that arise shortly after)

I honestly think people would be apprehensive to do so in case it undermines the vaccine effort

Oh come on half the of the posts on here are bollocks especially of late.. hardly think the one you pulled up was the worst by a long shot

I agree, it wasn't the worst, but was in the general area of "most posts on here are bollocks especially of late", where Stevie's count of those is far higher than most others.

Perhaps it would be better for all readers if there was less of the bollocks?

To be honest for me it's the arguments and trying to prove a point that said person Is "right" that pisses me off

Example I posted video about poor bastards in Brazil suffering but someone wanted to educate me on that actually Brazil wasn't that bad per capital as "only" 250k people had died - unnecessary prove a point score when all I was doing was look at these poor bastards

I fine this far worse and tbh I like Stevie posts as it's a piss take parody of some if the shite people are posting on here .... which is getting worse imo of course

Has this thread got anything to do with Glastonbury festival anymore?

It seems more to do with point scoring, one-upmanship and vanity than anything else.

Certainly no sign of the 'Glastonbury spirit' of late.

I've said this a few times. Always get shouted down though.

Tbf is more a general thread than a Glastonbury one and agree with your points as well.. I think this last year has really got to people and whilst vaccine hope is promising the endless doom cycle on the media and everywhere is taking the shine off this shit ending

Tempers are fraying even for the most patient fokes

On a plus side my boss mid 60s and team colleague mid 50s (both shielders) have had their jabs in the last few days so that's great news 🙂

Which is why I asked a little while ago why this thread had to be in the glastonbury section. There's a discussion section where this would sit nicely. My point is that for anybody wanting to find out the latest glastonbury chat, they will no doubt come across this load of nonsense first.

My nan was the same with the Pfizer. First dose she felt fine, aside from a sore arm, second dose she was in bed for 2 days afterwards feeling really rough. The nurse who vaccinated her did explain when she had the second dose that side effects are fairly common and that she could take a paracetamol if she felt unwell. My nan has also felt unwell in the past after the flu vaccine, so she wasn't worried herself when the Covid vaccine knocked her a little.

My grandad has had the first dose only of the Ox/Az and felt absolutely fine. Although we're wondering if perhaps he may have mild side effects when he has the second.

I've heard a couple of people leaving the vaccine centre I volunteer at saying they hope for some side effects because then that means it's working. I have no idea if there's any truth in that. Does 2 days in bed mean your body has recognised something and fought it off?

Yeah I get that but I sort of remember when this was brought up before if you put it in the discussion section is probably won't get anywhere near the traffic tbh

So best here as that helps traffic which helps the site (I believe)

Also there is not going to be any Glastonbury until next year so it's going to be randomness for at least another 6-8 months until it looks like festivals are happening unfortunately 😞

Volunteered at a vaccine centre today, am knackered! Luckily got a spare at the end of the day, totally by chance as they made more up than they needed - it was manic and suddenly went quiet; they really didn't want to waste a single dose.

Well done you. Volunteers efforts are slowly getting us back to the farm. Far, far, more effectively than the anti-social media you might find here. Thank you.

The cider bus creeps ever closer.

It's good they're not letting any spares go to waste. This nearly happened to me a couple of weeks back. There were a few extra Pfizers at the end of one of my shifts and I was asked if i wanted to be vaccinated, which threw me because i wasn't expecting to be offered it after only volunteering a handful of times at that point. I explained that I had had Covid fairly recently and so hoped I still had some natural immunity, and asked if my mum could have my dose. She's a teacher in her 50s who has been going into school since lockdown 1.0 and still has eight year 5s that she teaches in person every day. The head nurse explained that they have been advised to offer to volunteers if there are spares because there have been positive cases recently within that group, and that if you steward  all day, you are potentially in close contact with up to 1,000 strangers. Fair enough but can't say I wasn't disappointed that I couldn't call my mum to come and have it.

As it happened, there were more volunteers than spare vaccines so it went on age and I was one of the youngest there. The nurse said she'd make sure I have it next time but since then i've never been on a shift where there are any vaccines left over. We shall see. I still feel a bit funny about potentially being vaccinated before my parents' but I'm happy at the speed with which the age groups are being moved through, I'm confident it will be their turn soon 🙂

My parents both had the AZ vaccine today, they’ve been worried about the efficacy reports and wanted Pfizer.  All this negative press really doesn’t help.
I’m very relieved they’ve been vaccinated at last.

It really doesn't and honestly, I'm rolling my eyes at medical professionals in Italy turning down the Ox/Az for themselves. I'm assuming these are not medics who are 65 and over, so I'm not quite sure what their reasoning is. You can certainly argue that there is less data available for efficacy in the over 65s, which is incredibly frustrating, and fingers crossed we get some US trial data soon to put an end to this once and for all. But for the under 65s there is sufficient data, and the data that we do have for the over 65s shows no severe infection or death for those who received the vaccine.

I just feel like it's entirely irresponsible, not to mention reeks of absolute privilege, for them to be turning down a certain kind of vaccine and making demands (obviously I don't mean people who have legit reasons for needing one vaccine over another - allergies etc). There are some countries that have NO vaccine and won't for the foreseeable. Disappointing to see this from people in the medical profession especially. And considering the anti-vax sentiments of many mainland European countries....it's just a perfect brewing ground for a shit storm of a vaccine roll out. Or am I being harsh here?

Anyway, great news on your parents receiving the vaccine and hopefully more data will be available soon to alleviate any of their worries.

A large issue with this country is that politics has become tribal.

They know the government is shit but they’re afraid of change. You can’t convince the average little Englander to turn socialist over night.

It’s got to be a gradual process. We don’t have a left wing majority in this country and shouting at people and telling them that they should support left wing policies is too much for them to handle and it will close their minds to the possibilities.

Well that goes both ways.

Thank you. It was so nice to actually have something to do with a weekend day, and to interact with people, almost as if it was normal life (if you ignore the facemasks and gallons of hand gel!).

The cider bus creeping closer is very much worth it.

🙂I've volunteered locally too. My partner has be called up but nothing for me so far. They have loads of volunteers apparently. That's fantastic on my eyes, such a positive reflection of the good will of the silent majority, away from all the headlines and hand wringing.

Yet another paper showing the effect of Vitamin D, this one direct treatment on admission for Covid reduces your chances of death by 64%. Video by John Campbell here,

If everyone took a decent amount of Vitamin D supplement, the need for hospitalization and the death rate would be massively reduced, this is particularly vital if we are kept indoors for long periods, we all need sunlight (or extra Vit D) to stay healthy.
