Lot more key worker kids in school...

This needs clamped down on. For a start, any adult who can work from home shouldn’t be allowed to dump their sprogs into what amounts to a state funded crèche at this point. It should be strictly key workers (excluding WFH key workers such as NHS bosses) and vulnerable kids who can’t afford laptops.

Even in the latter group the focus should be on laptop procurement to get them out of school ASAP.

The first thing to do would be to clamp down better on the non essential businesses that have become essential this time around ....

Yeah plenty of offices still open with people going in. I know of one that went back on Monday like schools just for a day, which is ridiculous considering where the numbers were at that time. Really concerned we just won't bring the numbers down

No critical thinking in this country at all - I'm sure most of it is "well the first lockdown didn't work", without thinking about what would have happened if we didn't do lockdowns.

Prime example  is the Auction centre next door to me .... i know it might be hard for them to work from home .... but its a long way from essential .... 8 cars in the car park all day .... working indoors surely places like this are vectors for transmission ... in fairness they do seem to be wearing masks but people are still collecting things and dropping them off ... and the fb buy and sell sites too ....

Wouldn't be surprised with a Tory government to see it be, after the vulnerable are vaccinated "it's now available to everyone, but it's £500 - we need to start recovering the money we have spent on this".

And, much as the socialist in me hates it, it's not an horrendous idea. It's how you recover some of the extra money the middle class WFHers have saved. And they're the people who still have disposable income and so who you want out making the economy work again.

I'm not advocating for this, the idea appalls me, but I can't argue with the logic.

It is a horrendous idea.

EDIT: Although a nominal fee (say £20) for boosters beyond your second shot in 2022 and beyond might fly, £500 to get your initial vaccination isn't going to happen.

And clamp down on the ones breaking the rules too rather than parents that are following them.

I guess we will see some Tier 4 effects soon to see if / how much its working in getting infections down

I honestly dread to think what the next measures will be if it isn't working.  Probably still need 2-3 weeks now though, that one day of school mixing last week will have set us back a lot, sparking off loads of new virus cycles in kids then parents which would have been kept down over Christmas and stayed down if it wasn't for that day of madness. Plus any New Year "gatherings" will only start coming in now. Rough ride over the coming weeks!

I wonder if by May private employers will pay for their employees to get vaccinated privately.

Mine have said they will but only once it’s ethical to do so and there’s surplus supply to that required by the NHS rollout, ie to avoid our employees jumping the queue ahead of those who are more in need of a vaccine

you're qualified to guess, tho, yeah? 😛

Yep.

Is easy. All I have to do is look at the previous Tory targets and see how they've been missed!

(and that spread wasn't a prediction, it was for what would constitute a more realistic target).

lol!

From the other direction, I doubt even Spaffer the liar will have plucked a number out of the air.

Which leads me to believe that his own 'guess' is actually based on what has been worked out as possible, from vaccine delivery timescales and what vaccination centres have said they can cope with.

That number might not be right, but is it wrong for a PM to give the number his advisors have told him?

The way the number was said is something else, but there's reason to have faith that something close to that number should be achievable. Remember, there's nothing new about mass vaccinations at speed for the UK even tho this one is bigger than the normal flu jabs.
