  • The JCVI says some public sector workers should get priority in the second phase of the vaccine roll-out (ie, after the groups on the list have been vaccinated). It says:

Vaccination of those at increased risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 due to their occupation could also be a priority in the next phase. This could include first responders, the military, those involved in the justice system, teachers, transport workers, and public servants essential to the 10 pandemic response. Priority occupations for vaccination are considered an issue of policy, rather than for JCVI to advise on. JCVI asks that the Department of Health and Social Care consider occupational vaccination in collaboration with other government departments.

Q: When might the other vaccines be approved?

Raine says she cannot predict that. Every parcel of data is being scrutinised. She says the Commission on Human Medicines expert working group will be working over Christmas on this.

That implies that approval for the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, or the Moderna vaccine, might not happen until after Christmas.

not sure it implies anything more than they'll do it as fast as they possibly can and that xmas won't cause a delay if it takes that long.

Moderna would be the obvious one. Don't think anyone was expecting approval for Moderna quite as quickly as Pfizer or Oxford anyway.

Partly because they only filed a couple days ago, and partly because unlike the other 2 they've not been subject to a rolling review for as long so there'll be more work to do on it.

If Oxford isn't approved before Christmas (and probably within the next 2 weeks), then it'll indicate that either the data quality isn't good enough (yet), or they've spotted something they don't like. It's far more likely to be the former, while scare stories presume the latter.

I’d imagine that’s possibly more in reference to the Moderna vaccine?

edit: yeah, as Incident lays out.

How long can we sit and watch the absolute wretch lie and spew shit, not even well written shit, General Indecision. - Boris knows exactly why Keir abstained, but yet chooses to manipulate the public into thinking labour is working against their interests. When Keir literally wanted to help support job lost by Arcadia group and yet again put his hand out to the prime-minister. Shame Keir didn't bring up the Tory Rebellion

Starmer seemed statesmenlike today, focussing on the 2 big issues facing the country being the vaccine and insolvencies of 2 big businesses. Johnson just had to bring it back round and attack Starmer, hopefully people will notice one leader was trying to be non-partisan.

Blackford is one dour character.   I’m waiting for him to say ‘ we will take no vaccine approval from Tories down south and will wait for the McVaccine to be developed’   After all,  historically they seem to blame the UK government for everything whether it’s tory or labour!

if that all happens then looks like it will be no deal...unless last minute something happens and Johnson will clain it was because of this bill that EU caved in.

I hope that the EU stand firm and somehow make it impossible to blame them for no deal, which I think we've known we were always heading towards anyway.

Hancock's offer to be publicly vaccinated reminds me of when John Gummer tried to feed his young daughter a burger during the BSE (mad cow disease). This was intended to raise public confidence in british beef, it did not go down well.
