Yeah, I think the Uni decision is stupid..they already doing a lot of lectures online...but then I guess if you close them what do students do, go back to their parents? They really messed up the Uni thing.

Yeah I think that's why unis are staying pen to stop people spreading to their home towns. - BUt it's also again fucking over uni students, because most unis will probs opt to go online as much as possible now anyway, especially in the north. - These student should not be paying for this terrible year

The school environments are one of the most closely monitored by public health officials - suspected and confirmed cases have to be reported into the local authority and positive cases lead to working with the local authority public health teams to decide the action required.

Secondary schools I suspect pose a greater issue than primary schools due to more pupils, how they move around school and the way they socialise but children have got to learn otherwise we are only going to suffer as a nation further down the line. These kids deserve some sort of future.

Schools keep people in work too.

Ahh, I remember when people o here were swearing a second lockdown was impossible...

I think they should have pegged the end date to the number of infections. So “we want to get it down to X, after which we will reopen. We expect that to be on Dec 1”

I think reality is numbers won’t go down enough, and they will reopen retail for December with very strict rules on number of people allowed in store etc, keep hospitality closed. Keep everything else. Then allow home visits a couple of days over Xmas, then back to this level of lockdown for Jan

Just talking to my teacher friend and she thinks secondary schools should close as that age group can handle online learning better but primary schools need to stay open as they need the more hands on education.

but some kids won't have access to what they need for online learning. Some kids live in homes with crap broadband. Some kids will live in chaotic households. Some kids are more self motivated then others. Some kids needs social interaction more than others. Some kids need the support school provides. Too many inequalities.

My kid's secondary school has been pretty good. They try and keep kids in same bubble as much as possible, and when any kid tests positive the kids in bubble have to do the self isolate thing. They stagger times so corridors and eating areas are less busy. They have hand sanitiser everywhere. Kids wear masks when not in class. Teachers keep distanced from kids. Windows and doors are kept open...so kids have been told to wear coats as going to get cold this winter!

Load of municipalities here in Portugal (121/308) to go into mini lockdowns from the 4th for 2 weeks. Where we are isn't one of them so far..

Will see how that goes here then!

That's good to know - I just don't really know where this perception that schools are at fault has come from, same with universities - granted they played a part but if they didnt test their students would they have been blamed? Did their proactive testing make them a target?

A fair few of the town's high up the list aren't university towns at all!

eh? I want chancellor job or nothing. I am pretty good at sums...if that helps.

I don't want to doubt your financial credentials but I doubt even this government with their reckless spending would bet a tenner on trump! 😀

And the gov has massively cut the number of laptops they're going to provide to schools for the kids who need them.
