Fair enough I grew up on non-pc humour so i'm not too bothered by it TBH I know younger ones are more sensitive, not sure Fuzzy deserved the downvotes though, he's always skating on thin ice re his rep!

I don't mind what people do but I do find the idea that someone can be in favour of un-PC jokes yet get wound up by a little number next to their posts on an internet forum completely hilarious!

(I know that's not quite what's happening here I just enjoy the notion)

Eh, I made a slightly un-PC joke (but I maintain, not a hurtful joke. It was a tad stereotypical but I can’t imagine many being genuinely offended, even still I removed it when some posters opined that it was unacceptable), but I don’t really care that much about my red/green points. Wrong to accuse me of being wound up by it.

Problem is there will be no compliance without incentive and our country is the type that will only comply if they have immediate danger to themselves. At the moment no hospitals are overwhelmed and to most the threat isn't anywhere near themselves.

Unfortunately for any lockdown to have a chance of working there needs to be evidence, so big death numbers.

The problem is, I still don't think the people who aren't following rules now could be convinced to do so whatever happens

I think it could be slightly more nuanced than that. I think a lot of people, myself included, have little faith in these half baked restrictions actually working, as soaring case numbers in areas such as the north west that have essentially been in tier 2 for a while show that in order to really suppress case numbers we need far stricter restrictions, given the situation we find ourselves in with high case numbers and lack of an adequate test/trace system. If people don’t believe that the measures will work, this will lead to lower levels of compliance. If we’re in full lockdown, which we know from lockdown 1.0 will get case numbers down, then i think more will be inclined to apply, especially as a lot of ‘temptation’ such as pubs, shops etc won’t be available as they’ll be closed.

So Peston now saying London going into Tier 2 is far worse than the situation in NW of being pushed into Tier 3.... WTAF we've been in stricter tier 2 since 31st July Ffs

Always the same London always suffers more...

Also speaker of the house has banned booze from the commons bar 😅

I mean it’s very arguable whether the punishment fits the crime in London. Infection rates in the north are 3-4 times higher than that of London, so I’m not really sure what London has done to deserve getting put on a household ban.

Whats Boris going to do now? Will be interesting to see how many bother showing up to the commons.

With London going into tier 2 they also doing have the option of going round each other’s flats to sniff coke. Can see multiple by-elections being called in the coming months Tbh.

When Manchester went into "Tier 2" end of July our rates per 100k were 50 or below if I remember correctly and I believe the trigger was 50. Oldham was a lot higher than rest of the borough's so they had tighter restrictions... rember we had 4 different levels over the summer

Tameside where I live was 22 per 100k

The numbers in London are higher than we were when we went into Tier 2

The goalposts gave moved wildly since then, though

I think his point is that Tier 2 is worse because places aren’t shut but people won’t go out and Gov support isn’t available? I’m not saying I agree with his point as it does seem to be what you say about London.

They’ve kept moving them to keep London restriction free but it’s finally got to a point where restrictions can’t be avoided down there.

Tier 2 isn’t that bad anyway. It’s not the end of the world.

I struggle listening to The Smiths nowadays because of Morrisseys bonkers views and I think The Stone Roses are unfortunately entering that territory because of Ian... strange thing to get annoyed about when the worlds fucked yet it still annoys me.

Yeah it’s mainly about cutting off household to household transmission. So you can see people outdoors and still socialise if you want too. Although I’m sure being in Tier 2 for months like parts of the North have is tough.

I’d argue that there’s very little difference between tier 2 and tier 3 tbh. Not many people want to go to the pub with their own household.

I know that's my point tbh... we've been in limbo for nearly 3 months and London now being put in the same position and complaining it's worse for them

The issue is the push back to work, increase of movement and education setting which you know going back to normal life increases the spread.

I know there has been a few rule break up here (raves and what not) but the main drive of case rises is people doing what the Government told them to do...

Andy Burnham is right were the testing zone sacrificial lambs
