Sorry, I don't want to panic anyone thinking it's been confirmed that it's moving again, but let's be realistic, we won't get society back to normal in the time we have left. 2022 is on, but next year looks very unlikely at the moment.

Sadly I have to agree with you.

I'll add that just about everyone I know that that are involved with the festival to a greater or lesser extent think the same.

I was working with someone last week who works closely with one of the festival's big cheeses and they said "No f***ing chance although Michael is admant that it's on" Those were his exact words.

We can but hope....and if it is on, what a party it will be.

The people from all the other pubs forced to shut should picket them ..... they have unfortunately caused the death of many small pubs and will now be supported and potentially even more busy because of an artificial monopoly created by this government ....

It sounds brutal - things were already tough for nhs staff before the pandemic due to the ongoing underfunding and target pressures etc, I do worry about the long term toll this is all taking on them

Finally reading the Illiad has been one of my aims for this year. I just keep getting to a big list of ships and find my interest waning, but I'm still determined I'll crack it some day.

Northern Ireland has no restrictions on bars at the minute except the 10.30pm last order/out by 11pm curfew.

The problem is there won't have been end of year mocks to base this on, and they are so far behind that Feb/Mar is probably too early for new mocks. And teacher assessment is harder to do when face to face teaching has been limited.

I don't think anyone thinks that the extra three weeks is enough to catch up on everything, but it's better than nothing. It's three weeks' more work that can be covered.

Only difference I think is that it will become illegal to socialise outwith your household in any indoor environment including hospitality, but conversely, mixing in gardens will become legal.

As somebody who lives in the ‘Liverpool City Region’ (although I technically don’t really but that’s for another day), I’m angry that we are being grouped in with the Tier 3 restrictions even though we are in the 300’s per 100k. Granted it’s still too high and action is taken, but if Manchester is avoiding it for now with much higher figures then I don’t really see how it fair? There are going to be many instances of this as we move forward - with the dominant cities impacting the surrounding towns.

I think it’s because your mayor has folded over and let the government shaft him whereas Manchester council have stuck up for the city and refused to agree to a lockdown

I mean the other way to look at it is to be overjoyed the government are taking action to stop deaths in your area and not just letting people die like in Manchester.

To answer your question from your other post - I've got a penguin classics version, translation by E. V. Rieu!

This year I have read The Silence of the Girls (The Illiad from the perspective of Briseis), The Song of Achilles (The Illiad from the perspective of Patroclus), Circe (The Odyssey from the perspective of Circe), The Children of Jocasta (the story of Oedipus and Antigone from the perspective of one of their daughters) and A Thousand Ships (The Illiad from the perspective of many different female characters). 

I've loved them all. Always loved Greek mythology anyway, so seems a good time to complete the set with the source material. 

It may or may not be a coincidence that my "happy place" after a bad day at work, for a large part of the last year, has been to play Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.. whilst listening to Lana Del Rey. 

But yes - we definitely need a bookclub, or at least a new thread! 😄

This virus is going to run absolutely rampant across the UK over the next few months, isn't it?!? 

A large proportion of the population have chucked it (with regards to compliance) and I therefore doubt even tier 3 restrictions can bring the spread down to a reasonable level. 

Save from another March lockdown, we are just going to have to live with high levels of circulation for at least the winter.
