Fuck it I'll go for in for PMQs...

In other news I've just been to the gym and the steam room and sauna are back open! When did that become allowed? Seems crazy when cases are rising.

I did not indulge, although they used to be one of my favourite bits about the gym.

Not at mine but people are clearly flaunting the 45min swimming sessions and extending them ... this just leads to a domino effect as people end up saying sod it ... and then it becomes too crowded as I’m sure some haven’t booked a slot with the app either .. I do love the steam room ... but like you say that surely isn’t right !!

Wow... which gym is this? Agree, this was my favourite part of gym but I can’t see how this is allowed at the moment!

It's an independent. They weren't open last week when I went so not sure what has changed. It wasn't publicised.

Not sure if it applies to gyms more widely though. I think David Lloyd might have its steam and sauna open too (I know this because annoyingly my gym is shutting down for nine months to a year to refurbish soon - great timing - and have started researching other options). Won't be going through as it costs a bomb!

There's really not much else that can be done apart from this- expanding  a ban on household mixing isn't going to help because it hasn't worked in the local lockdown areas.

That said, closing hospitality will just mean more household socialising (by that I mean parties, not couples/families) as more will be off work than before and there will be nowhere else to go.

Short of locking people in these areas in their houses I really don't see how this spread can be stopped. If people in an area are stupid enough to lead to the sort of increases we're seeing AFTER local lockdown rules came in, how is anything but China style force going to change anything?

Not advocating that, just saying that there is very little to be done and any further rules won't be adhered to in the north

People definitely starting to take the piss generally at mine now, especially in the spa pool which is supposed to be limited to 4 and booked for.

Gonna have a look today and might give them a call after ... frustrating as people need to stick to it ... I’m not getting the value out of it but I’m putting up with it because that’s the way things are at the moment ...

Anyone know any loan companies for all these media subscriptions I need to take out ? :)

In a hypothetical situation, the source code of these articles behind paywalls could sometimes be interesting.

Purely from a coding perspective of course 😉

Obviously it's only interesting on sites that don't deserve subscription money

My parents are in for their flu jabs on Saturday. Given very specific times like 11.26 & 11.28.

Mum seems to think every jab is 2 mins apart. Mind boggling to think how many a day they are doing if that's the case.

Like you say seems like a trial for a mass roll out although could also be how it's always been done...

I had mine in the Sainsbury Lloyd's chemist up the road on Sunday.....she told me they are doing around 40 a day just there.

Apparently the sauna and steam room thing was announced last week - totally missed that:

They've not re-opened in Nuffield gyms yet (As of yesterday)

This is the article:

In new government guidelines, saunas and steam rooms have been given the go-ahead to reopen after more than six months closed. On average such facilities account for 40 percent of revenue for spas, although according to the UK Spa Association, this figure can be up to 75 percent.
The UK has over 900 spa and wellness businesses, which together generate £2.1 billion and employ 45,000 people. Although popular, massages and facials are classed as ‘add-ons’ in spa settings. With many customers booking in for spa days without treatments, until now many businesses have had to weigh up the financial viability of opening up for treatments alone.
Helena Grzesk, the general manager of the UK Spa Association said, “ We have waited several months to reopen saunas and steam rooms, and the prolonged closure has been detrimental and frustrating for the industry.
“We wrote to the Prime Minister, Chancellor, Secretary of State for BEIS, Secretary of State for DCMS, and Chief Medical Officer on several occasions to request a reopening date and to further emphasise the evidence around the safety of saunas and steam rooms.”
An integral part of any spa, saunas and steam rooms positively affects muscles, joints and bones. Heat can help to remove lactic acid, salt and urea from the body and facilitates the absorption of nutritional substances and oxygen. The heat also stimulates the immune system whilst steam opens and clears the respiratory system, unblocking sinuses and helping the client to breathe more freely.

No mention of why they are safe.
