It is madness though - if I have Covid and enter a restaurant at 09:50 and I then test positive does everyone that was in the restaurant at somepoint that day even of they left before me get contacted? Surely having a check in and check out would reduce the number of people needing to be contacted and therefore free up capacity in the process.

When I was contacted at the start of the month I was told that someone in the gym had tested positive and was in the gym at a certain time. As I was in the venue on the same day I was advised to get a test but it was up to me(at that point anyone could get tested)

@FestivalSteve6just out of interest, why did you downvote my previous post? Just interested that’s all.

I suspect its someone who recently got banned, returned under yet another new alias. (apologies to festivalsteve6 if its not! - it was an odd post to down vote, maybe it was an accident?) I've upvoted you to reverse the effect!

Sorry this has nothing to do with covid, but I saw it while posting the above and couldn't help laughing :

😂 Good stuff.

You don’t have to apologise for posting something off topic in here btw, especially as the vast majority is covid related anyway. The additional non-covid bits are entertaining too.  Keep it up!

But it IS about COVID, what you are complaining about here specifically is some establishments requiring you to use the tracking app, it is bonkers to say that will continue forever.

That aside the app only has anonymised location data so it isn't that big of a risk anyway.

We'll see, this is the first step to get people used to "signing in", by next year the government will have finalised their digital ID scheme and that will no doubt be linked to your phone.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/next-steps-outlined-for-uks-use-of-digital-identity

By that time people will be vaccinated and the app will be changed so that only the vaccinated are free to enter pubs etc. (for the safety of everyone of course).  If I'm wrong and we are back to free access to pubs etc. you can call me bonkers then.

Going to need more on the reasoning. I get why government would want to know where people are but why do they need people to have the vaccine? Something bad about it?

I'm not convinced that the Government will mandate a vaccine but even if they do that will be temporary. Even if there is immunity passporting next summer there won't be in 5 years time.

Did you actually read that document or did you see digital identity and get spooked. They are not talking about creating some fancy digital ID you need to have they are taking about digitising already existent ID checks so that the absurd act of scanning or worse physically presenting your passport, driver's license or birth certificate can be sped up. Indeed the pilot is only offering a yes/no as to whether someone's passport details are correct.

I thought it was. Didn’t feel worth the effort commenting though. I wonder how we’ve managed to upset him so much but he can’t resist coming back.

Maybe it’s like in school for him, when you are mean to someone but you actually really like them?

Like Mulder and Scully in here - sexual tension is through the roof.

he’s got more fake accounts than he’s got different career paths.

Anyone know if airports have been closed in locked down cities? Am starting to think the only barrier to me going on hol next week would be a London lockdown - whatever that entails. Ta!

Leeds & Bradford airport is still open with both cities under lockdown.

No, they haven’t. “Local lockdown” these days just means a household visiting ban and in Bolton’s case, hospitality is takeaway only. No impact on travel.

I don't want to come across as the COVID Grinch but is a holiday next week the best idea particularly if you are in a place with cases high enough that it's at risk of a lockdown?

I don't know what the UK wide position is on overseas travel but certainly up here in Scotland the recommendation is no unnecessary trips abroad.

This is the current advice from Gov.uk:

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Cheers for the info guys. Am in London - though in my borough, Lewisham, there were 22 new cases per 100,000 people last week. Is that high? Doesn't sound crazy to me.

I don't understand why anyone would want to take the unnecessary risk of sitting on a plane with 200+ people just to have a holiday abroad.
