Brutal by the SNP to ban students from going to pubs. You can’t say they are afraid of making decisions but still very brutal.

The west end of Glasgow last week was carnage, Glasgow uni freshers week. Students arriving from all over the country to the halls of residence. My daughter stayed in the halls where the outbreak is years ago. It’s usually six students in a flat each with a small bedroom and a shared kitchen/social area. Ideal for viral spreading. In addition it’s just a short walk to loads of clubs and bars. It’s no surprise what has happened, I hope other unis take note as they prepare to open.

Fair play, not saying it’s the wrong move as the conditions you describe sound like it would be easy to pass on. I feel for those students.

Quietly dreading when the freshers officially start here next week. My boyfriend works in a university library. On the one hand, very relieved he still has a job and has been able to go back to work... on the other.. yeah.. students + covid = nothing good.

Can only hope that if we get it, it won't be too bad.

My observation generally is that people aren't going to tolerate social distancing/lockdown past this winter (and I dont even think it will last for winter)

As per this, they aren't quarantining at the moment. There isn't much I can the govt can do in terms of enforcement

Yep, exact problem I have. At least I have 50:50 learning and I guess I won’t be socialising much anyway, but I’m locked into a contract. But could definitely go all online in a next lockdown and I’m definitely coming home for Christmas I’m not staying in uni I’m coming back to see my family regardless!

Yeah, I don’t see how they can insist students stay in Halls over Christmas- they’re basically cells, it would be like imprisoning you!

My wife works at a public library and it sounds like people are awful. I’d have more faith in the students, to be honest.

Hope it goes well for him/you!

So they’re basically in prisons which they have to pay for. They’ve been absolutely conned, it’ll be very bad for their mental health to be confined to such small spaces (when i went to uni in glasgow my room was about the size of a double bed- here’s a photo of the rooms from their website:

Hopefully he doesn't come too close and have to move around with his job or its inevitable imo.

I do my shopping on smithdown road and the students coming back and not giving a fuck is very noticeable.

I don't blame them really, stuck at home for 6 months. Now allowed out mixing with people who are generally not at risk, far away from their loved ones. Easy to judge but sticking an 18 year old head on its understandable. :(

My son works at bmth University as an events organiser.. Luckily he's doing most of the stuff at home but not for much longer.. Bloody scary stuff.. Especially as my daughters shop has shut because one of the staff has tested positive so she needs to get tested and we had the kids last week.......... Do we NEED to have a test... I'd like to have one just so that we can have the kids again next week but there's no tests available.... I have a cough and headache but no loss of taste.. =man flu lol

Library at the university I work at seems very secure.

They arrive and are taken to a table, if they want books they can request them online and they're brought to them.

You've got a 2 hour time slot with timers built into the desks which are enforced when it's busy.

No group working in the library allowed. You can book a space to be certain you're allowed in.

What kind of cough? Lots of  COVID patients don't lose their sense of smell.

Hopefully the university scandal inspires every single 18/19 year old to register to vote & eventually condemn this shite government to the dustbin of history!

They feel they can treat youngsters like shit 'cos they know most of them don't vote.

The students treated the worst are up here in Scotland where we have elections next year and despite the exam fiasco and now this uni fiasco I suspect the young vote will be firmly for the current administration because boo Westminster, boo Tories, boo England.
