I don't intend to open a whole Scotland debate here as that has been discussed at length elsewhere. I would simply observe that the Scottish Government has very limited borrowing powers so it has little choice but to ask "for more from Westminster" if it wishes to take measures that would require additional funding.

It has asked Westminster for the power to borrow more money. This request has fallen on deaf ears.

over 1% borrowing isn't "very limited". It's very proportionate alongside the devolved powers.

Also, Scotland has done very well out of the pandemic, because of Barnet. What has Sturgeon done with the extra 10% money she's had for Scottish furlough, for example?
(and the extra 10% of all of the other covid spending?).

He eats boris for breakfast every PMQ

He sounds like Brian Badonde, just whipped his MPs to vote for the tory bill to limit the ability to prosecute soldiers committing war crimes, and had known CIA agent and numpty Ruth smeeth introduce him at conference, describing her as a model labour member.

Nandy is on record in the wake of his speech saying that it indicated a pivot right and that his election promises such as increasing the tax on top earners to 50% and renationalising rail are maybe now not going to be made good on.

If all of that is just to court the centrists and once he’s elected he goes full on socialist i’ll eat my words but so far, I’m not convinced the keir fanboys are seeing beyond the nice hair.

The spike in triage was probably due to the return of schools and parents worried about their child’s possible symptoms. As kids have been at school longer I would reckon that this data is therefore unlikely to be terribly helpful in predicting new positive cases.

Make sense, sadly.

I’ll probably download this, I wonder what it’s like on battery life.

Just downloaded it and ticked the options in my phones settings, I can’t find online though whether the app needs to be active on my phone or whether it works when locked or closed.

As I said before, I don't wish to clutter up this thread with Scottish stuff. So I have addressed Neil's inaccuracy in a more appropriate thread.

Hancock is talking about the app on the news right now.

A viewer said they can’t use it on iPhone 6 (I have an old SE and it’s working fine?) and his response was they should upgrade their phone... Also had one of his giggles.

Android 6 or IOS 13.5 or later only.

Apologies.

What is Sturgeon doing with the extra 10% via barnett, to a total of £3.2Bn (& more since March) - around 5% extra to the Scottish Govts budget (above it's fair share) of covid money..?

Same here.....does it run silently in background when closed, or does it always have to be open with the 'scanning' graphic doing its thing?

Broad shoulders of the Union innit. Better together etc.

Should BJ allow the borrowing bloody Sturgeon would only extend the furlough scheme in an attempt to stall the virus.

It would probably work as well and how would that look.

Lots of jocks pissed that she’s banned the visiting to other households but perhaps that might make a difference. Time will tell.

There is a bit of disquiet especially those who feel they can’t make a safe visit to even close family members. We’ve a friend who is an experienced cop in the Greenock area.  He’s overwhelmed, and in despair, at the amount of house parties and gatherings he’s been trying to break up for months now. There is an element who just don’t care. He’s been spat at, police car vandalised and is really stressed. These are the idiots that are spoiling it for the rest of the country and probably the main reason for the ban on household visits.  As for borrowing more cash, that would have to be paid back so if Sturgeon had the power to do that then she has to be clear to us Scots that we would have to pay it back. It’s easy to exert power and look popular without responsibility.

Quick question about this app: do I need to have it active and scanning all the time or can I just do that when I leave the house? Thinking it will rinse battery needlessly.

Sane question from me although one thing you need to do is to set the app so it is 'excepted' from being forced to stop when you have low battery.  On Android you do this through the App settings itself.

Will do. My worry really though is that my phone is a bit old and the battery isn't great, so wondering if I'm going to have to charge even more to support this. Guess we'll find out soon once people start reporting.

I think it will run in the background as it uses Apples Exposure Notification system which runs in the background.
This will add a bit more detail.

https://faq.covid19.nhs.uk/search/?logicalNames=knowledgearticle&q=BATTERY+USAGE

Will the app drain the battery and data allowance?

The developers suggest the app should account for less than 5% of a device's battery use.
But if the phone is set to use a low-power mode, owners should go into their settings to exclude the app so it can continue contact tracing at all times.
And while the app is continually checking for updated data, the major networks have said they will not deduct usage from people's allowances.
