I don’t like how if this goes wrong it’s because we didn’t follow the restrictions not because the actions taken by the Government weren’t good enough.

As in any decision they make it’s always someone else’s fault!! They never take responsibility! Talking from experience of working in local government!

I did read that 60% of the population worked from home in the lockdown though.

I’m not saying you aren’t right, but I’m surprised that hospitality, retail, construction, education etc doesn’t account for more than 40% of the working population.

Kid got sent home from nursery today with a temp of 37.5. It’s now back to 36.4.

Shes not allowed back for 14 days without a negative test. And we also have to isolate (I think?)

Can you get a test? Can you fuck.

Keep persisting ...  maybe in early hours slots do free up !!

Despite the inevitable avoidance of responsibility and blame-shifting onto the public for following their advice, that was OK and I imagine it would get through to the public how serious things are?

Having said that, we are seemingly living in a country pinning its hope on a ‘stitch in time saves nine’.

With all the incessant talk of pubs closing, facemasks, distancing etc we have got to remember to support those who will find this whole thing so difficult to cope with. I am almost positive that all of us will know someone, a friend, relative or colleague who will struggle over the next few months. After thinking we’ve come through the worst we find ourself faced with what seems like going backwards. For some folk that is going to be hard and cause problems.  So if you know someone like that, give them a call, talk to them, arrange to meet them in a pub or a park. Don’t let them suffer in silence.  I spoke to a former work colleague today, I hope I did some good.

I totally agree there is going to be a lot of anxiety out there... I've been relatively prepare and well informed so far but even hearing everything today has increased my stress even though I can WFH, have garden and more importantly still have a job..

These last few weeks I've found myself get very stressed mainly from seeing an increase of covid deniers and all the conspiracy stuff at a time when we have to put our trust in others to make things work. Been in stricter lockdown since 1st Aug yet I'm not seeing number go down round here, thrown in the "fuck it" crowd which I'm seeing on my own FB feed and it's just pissing me off and adding to stress levels :(

Focus on the positives, find like minded people so you can support each other. Don’t ignore the realities of the awful situation we are all in, but concentrate on the simple fact that one day we will return to the real normal. As for the Covid deniers and sceptics, ignore them, don’t cause yourself more stress by trying to engage with them. Their attitude is borne out of ignorance and maybe even fear.

Still think he should have made a point of if we don’t do something to curtail the virus now then there won’t be any socialising in December.

I also think they should make the point this can cause either long term damage or death to middle aged folks not just 70+ as most of case that in hospital round Manchester blokes in their 50s

Yes, I won't bore you with a conspiracy theory but another 6 months of this will kill many businesses esp. leisure & travel, the response to this is much the same  globally so the global economy will have to be rebuilt and the debt based system we now have will have to change, I'm predicting a far less prosperous future than many would have been expecting, the strive for "global equality" many want mean a far poorer standard of living for us in the west (unless you believe everyone can be rich). I can't see how we get back to the life we had previously after this.

I think we here in the UK may not be quite as prosperous as coping with the aftermath of COVID couple with Brexit based disruption is going to be hard but "the west" in general will be fine.  I think it's sweet that you think the dark forces of global conspiracy are trying to make a more equal world it sounds lovely.

Thank you - I've generally been okay so far, but I started back at work on 1st Sept and as I say WFH but manager keeps mentioning well we will have to go into the office to be seen (so basically no reason imo).. add that to the deniers and I'm like noooooo

I come on here for sane conversation, I added a FB post the other day that was quite mean and kind folk on here made me feel better - I think I've just had a wobble of late tbh

Wonder what the correlation is between the men you see on these marches ... predominantly and the men in hospitals currently ...

I think he knows it's not going to be enforceable to cancel Christmas. Its just not going to happen. Scary really.

To be honest (and this will be a shocker) I thought his address was a bit pointless. He didn’t really say anything new, blamed the public and kept on fisting an imaginary cow. Is that all the leadership we are really going to get? He’s a lame duck Prime Minister.

It’s just a build up to 2-3 weeks time when we go into full lockdown again. Just preparing us.

Saves him doing one until the big Christmas speech.

I liked the quotes from Sturgeon’s statement. Realistic and focusing on a future after all this.

Also, big question from me living in Manchester is what does it mean for us with higher infection rates? basically measures announced today are pretty much what we have had since 1st Aug (apart from 10pm finish) so are we going to be same as rest of country or are we getting even stricter restrictions due to being a hotspot???

This is Manchester figs today:
