If sacrificing my social life for a few weeks means we have a better chance of beating the virus then that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Now is not the time to be selfish.

Well yeah, if a lockdown is needed then so be it. But better to shut everything down than keep all the shit stuff.

im fine with pubs shutting completely ...... but they and the staff that work in them MUST be supported financially ... add to that the whole chain of suppliers ..... it unfortunately is obviously an area causing big outbreaks .... apologies if that is your living but harsh decisions need to be made ... and this was also talked of before in a balance with schools returning ... and now that balance has tipped .... 10pm nah

It’s looking like it will be a case of you can socialise and go to events if you can afford a test but if you can’t then tough titties.

Yeah so when there's a circuit break at half-term we can all nip down south to spread/catch the thing and you can return the favour a couple of weeks later.

If the plan is for a circuit break we really should be aligning across the four nations even if it means adjusting the term dates slightly.

Or have a four-week circuit break throughout the whole of October?

Although I'm all for a partial closure (10pm curfew) of pubs etc. I'm not convinced that solves the issue if they are as big a problem for transmission as we are told.

Would it not push people towards house parties and the like?

Call me pessimistic (or even a realist!) but I'd say the festival is all but cancelled for 2021.

Look how crazy the country is going at the moment, 200k+ people at a festival? We are a million light years from it.

As much as I detest the woman and hate that I would be lining her pockets but Dildo Hardings pay before you play scheme is likely how Glastonbury and other festivals are going to be going ahead.

Cheltenham is a certainty now.

ill call you pessimistic at the moment but im not totally like my username and realistic enough to realise that its far from probable , but im holding the hope for the vaccine for the vulnerable and medical professionals and then the festival being at peoples own risk ..... which might be the way we move anyway even if we dont get a vaccine .

House parties might be easier to enforce for police ... as like it or not they will be obvious to neighbours that want to restrict them ...

Hancock showed his true colours in parliament today, said the Flu jab should be mandatory for NHS staff, there's a fair few don't want it for some reason, then answered a question on vitamin D from a BAME mp who wanted free supplements for people during winter or a government campaign to encourage people to take them, he said they had looked at vitamin D and there was no benefit re: covid, he's a blatant liar and clearly in the pocket of the vaccine companies.

Wasn’t this costing the country 100 billion, so are we being charged on top of that? Really taking the p*ss now

Yep the government are a bunch of tossers.  Basically saying you can keep doing all the shit bits of your life (work and school) but we are cancelling all the fun bits.

I think it will be widely ignored.

I think the problem is that if we take away the "shit bits" for too long there will be no "fun bits" to come back to afterwards.

This really is trying to be seen to do something. I wonder what they'd do if elections and popularity weren't a problem for a bit longer? Or Brexit wasnt on the horizon? I doubt it'd be this..

I'd call you a realist...was talking about this earlier- I see very little chance of non distanced gatherings in 2021 - you've seen how the public react to pictures of people on beaches, there isnt much chance of people accepting festivals that the majority cant afford unless it's completely 100% over

So I watched the briefing today and thought it struck a pretty sombre tone. I liked that they tried to emphasise that the restrictions aren't intended as a punishment and it's about society as a whole, not just the individual. But I can't see the government doing anything this week in all honesty. I fear that we will wait too long and lockdown harder for longer again, whereas I think most people would prefer a short sharp shock.

I'm torn on the whole thing from a personal point of view. There are vulnerable people in my life that I want to visit and I hate the idea of not being able to. But if this gets out of control then it is not safe to do so anyway. I'm also worried about hospitals getting overwhelmed again.

It's a very tough thing to navigate and I do understand why people don't want further restrictions. I would hope they'd make some sensible exceptions for childcare, bubbles, couples etc.

But I also think a vaccine is coming. So it seems doable to last a bit longer with this stuff.
