When will this shit end?

I’m still failing to see how an overwhelmed health service if we let things continue as they are is going to help cancer deaths ... ? Suppressing it and leaving the doctors available for the normal services is surely the best way forward ... and making sure covid is treated at these covid nightingale hospitals and other services can function as best as is possible elsewhere without grinding to an absolute halt

yeah, lockdown definitely easier when the weather's nice.

As long as you've got a garden or access to outside space. I'm in a smallish flat, but lucky that when I was only going out for an hour's exercise I could just stroll along the seafront. Would've hated it if the weather was nice and all I could do was walk round a locked up city centre.

Sweden were having a kind of 2nd wave in June/July...although the numbers of people dying didn't increase with the numbers of cases...which kind of gives us hope.

The lower death rates for second waves is interesting, is it age related? Better treatments? Virus mutation? If its better treatments then that can be problematic if the nhs gets overwhelmed because you can't offer those treatments. If it's age related then that's problematic as eventually it will spread to older people.

Only on the assumption that 100% of us are susceptible to the virus. If there's a big portion of society that's naturally immune, herd immunity is achieved much faster.

Which is why you play for time to find out these things, rather than just taking a gamble. More time means better chance of vaccine and better treatments and knowledge. A few more weeks or months and we should know a lot more especially regarding vaccine viability

Of course not 🙄

I don’t think Covid is fake, I believe it kills people, I’m social distancing, mask wearing and compliant, thanks.

So, are we not allowed to consider the indirect deaths that are killing more people than Covid, as those academics have in their letter, without being one of Corbyn’s brothers crew?

The main author has been tweeting just good news throughout the pandemic ... now I suppose that’s one take and a way of being positive but the reality is 60,000 excess deaths whilst he tweets good news ... there’s a balance to be achieved I think and his tips on the side of the sceptics from my reading of his tweets

That's a fair point.

Lockdown in winter is only really worse than lockdown in summer for those that have gardens. They're essentially complaining about being in the same boat as many others were for the first round of lockdown anyway.

I don't know...even without a garden at least you could go to park and meet friends if weather's nice...that option will be gone when it's cold and wet.

But! I don't think next lockdown will be anything like the last lockdown.

Well you could go outside for exercise as much as you wanted in the first lockdown (advised only one per day for the first 6 weeks) and after 6 weeks of it, you were allowed to sit in public places such as parks.

I see no indication that exercise and park usage will be restricted by any 2nd lockdown.

Lockdown 1: Everything was banned apart from a few very limited exceptions.

I think it’s far more likely that lockdown 2 will have a specific list of things that are banned, as opposed to a list of what’s not banned.

This is my prediction.

Most workplaces and schools to stay open.
All restaurants and bars to operate takeaway only. This should mean they can stay partially open.
No socialising outside of your immediate bubble.

I agree with 1 and 3. I think hospitality will get one final warning, but it’ll be a 10pm curfew rather than a takeaway only rule for now. But I think takeaway only will be the next move if this doesn’t work.

The 10pm thing won’t be enough. Nights are already getting colder so beer garden use is already dropping rapidly, no one will be sitting outside other than us stupid Northerners. Everyone is trying to sit inside now.

They will have to stop groups of people mixing together as much as possible. Any places that people can congregate inside will be getting restricted.

Takeaways will continue to operate as workers need their tea and sandwiches. But this is for sustenance and non social reasons.

I think the restrictions won’t come in this week so expect a huge rush to get into pubs for one final time this weekend. Again 🙄

I’m not saying that Whitty/Valance/Hancock won’t be arguing for those restrictions but remember you’ve also got Rishi Sunak and Alok Sharma Q’s well as others fighting hard for the economy and for personal freedom. I really think Boris is going to give the pubs one last chance and just do a curfew. Will it be enough to push R below 1? Personally I highly doubt that it will. But I think that’s what the government will go with for now.
